    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quenching method by which a cooling speed can surely increased.SOLUTION: A work is cooled while being vibrated at high speed in cooling liquid so that flow rate of the cooling liquid relative to the work becomes ≥1 m/sec. As a result, boiling bubbles wrapping the work in the boiling stage are surely and effectively stripped off, and the replacement of the cooling liquid on the work surface is promoted and the cooling speed of the work becomes high. Further, in the convection stage after the boiling stage, the cooling liquid on the work surface is replaced due to the above high speed vibration, thereby the cooling speed becomes high.

When the underlayer 2 and the stress relaxation layer 3 are formed, the treatment chamber is set at argon gas atmosphere, and when the hard layer 4 is formed, the treatment chamber is set at an atmosphere containing argon gas and nitrogen gas.
