    Abstract: A load on the shins when a knee airbag is deployed by inflating in a state in which the knees of an occupant are proximate to an airbag door or suchlike is moderated. Inside a knee airbag (86), an upper tether (100) and a lower tether (102) are disposed to sandwich an inflator 70 from above and below. First opening portions (104) and second opening portions (106) for letting gas flow through up and down are alternatingly formed in the upper tether (100) and the lower tether (102). The second opening portions (106) are formed as circular holes with smaller diameters than the first opening portions (104). The second opening portions (106) are disposed at positions opposing the knees (Y) of a small occupant in a sitting state.

SOLUTION: In a module case 20 for housing an airbag body 16 and an inflator 18, a central part 20C corresponding to a seating center of an occupant 14 is separated from the occupant 14 than both ends 20E in a vehicle forward and backward direction. Therefore, if the occupant 14 is positioned near an instrument panel 28, a distance D2 can be secured between the occupant 14 and the central part 20C, and the body of the occupant 14 is not overlapped on the module case 20.     Abstract: In a knee airbag device for a vehicle, which has upper and lower tethers that extend in a vehicle width direction and regulate a bag thickness of an airbag, and in which gas from an inflator is supplied between the upper and lower tethers, it is aimed to make a flow of the gas toward an upper portion and a lower portion from between the upper and lower tethers at the inside of the knee airbag smoother, and to improve deployability of the knee airbag in a vehicle vertical direction. Upper and lower tethers 16 and 18 are arranged to be separated from each other in the vehicle vertical direction and are formed so that a vertical clearance therebetween increases approaching both vehicle width direction end portions 16A and 18A thereof. When the gas is supplied between the upper and lower tethers 16 and 18, the gas spreads to both vehicle width direction sides along the tethers 16 and 18 and smoothly moves around into an upper portion 14A and a lower portion 14B of a knee airbag 14 from both of the end portions 16A and 18A of the tethers 16 and 18.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a knee protecting device enabling a shock absorbing member to effectively absorbing shock. SOLUTION: A frame 36 fixed on a moving frame 30 supports a restraining member 48 and the moving frame 30 and the frame 36 are moved rearward to arrange the restraining member 48 just in front of knees of an occupant in collision of a vehicle in an active knee bolster 10. Consequently, the frame 36 is deformed by receiving impact on the restraining member 48 from the knees of the occupant and the shock is absorbed. A lateral extension part 38 is extended to a right side or a left side and the longitudinal extension part 42 is extended upward from a tip of the lateral extension part 38 in the frame 36. Consequently, the frame 36 is not only mainly elastically deformed at the longitudinal extension part 42 to absorb the shock but also torsionally deformed at the lateral extension part 38 to absorb the shock.
