    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the restraining force of the head of an occupant, when a specific high load is operated to the side part of a car body. SOLUTION: A bag 16 inflated in a curtain form from a front pillar 20 along a roof side rail 24 furnishes plural inflating parts 32 parallel each other, and inflated in a cylindrical form by making almost the vertical direction of the vehicle to cross a tension line T as the longitudinal direction. Of those inflating parts 32, only a specific inflating part 32A which is inflated at a specific position at the rear side of the center pillar 18 is made in a larger diameter than the other inflating parts 32B. Consequently, when the head of an occupant is abutted to the bag 16, and the load is operated to the outer side of a car room, the specific inflating part 32A made in a larger diameter is engaged to the center pillar 18. As a result, the moving amount of the head of the occupant to the outer side of the car room can be suppressed, and the restraining force of the occupant head can be improved.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the performance of protecting the head of an occupant when predetermined heavy load is applied to the side of a body by increasing the resistance to the movement of the head of the occupant to the cabin outward direction. SOLUTION: A main cylindrical inflation part 70 curved downward is provided at the lower edge of a bag 22 which is inflated in a curtain shape when predetermined heavy load is applied to the side of a body and the first subsidiary cylindrical inflation part 72 to the fourth subsidiary cylindrical inflation part 78 are provided upward thereof. When gas is supplied from an inflation 20, a substantially tension line is formed at the position of T, lower than an original tension line T'. Then, resistance to the movement of the head of an occupant to the cabin outward direction is increased to improve the performance of protecting the head of the occupant.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly expand a second expansion area by withdrawing an arm of an occupant from the expansion locus of an air bag body by means of the air bag body if the arm is on a door belt line when the air bag body expands. SOLUTION: An air bag body 22 is provided with a breaking yarn 32 which inclines upward toward the front of the vehicle from near the underside 30A of a seatbelt 30 located above the shoulder 24C of the occupant 24. The air bag body 22 causes its first expansion area 34 to expand toward the front of the vehicle at the early stage of expansion and, if the arm 24D of the occupant 24 is on the belt line 38 of the vehicle, pushes the upper arm 24E out forward from behind. The breaking yarn 32 breaks on completion of the expansion of the first expansion area 34, allowing a second expansion area 36 to expand upward roughly along the seatbelt 30.

SOLUTION: The seat belt device for restraining the occupant of the vehicle includes a spool 30 for rolling-up the seat belt 10; a shaft 32 arranged at an inner side of the spool 30 relatively rotatably with the spool 30; a plurality of outer plates 36 integrally provided on an inner periphery of the spool 30; and a plurality of inner plates 38 integrally provided on an outer periphery of the shaft 32. The outer plate 36 and the inner plate 38 are alternately arranged in an axial X direction. An operation chamber C is formed between the inner periphery of the spool 30 and the outer periphery of the shaft 32, and a viscous fluid is filled in the operation chamber C.
