    Abstract: In a knee airbag attached to a steering column, the knee airbag is inflated and deployed quickly to a small space between an instrument panel and the knees of a vehicle occupant in a collision. A knee airbag 36 of a knee airbag device 10 is formed of a first inflation portion 38 which extends in a vehicle lateral direction along an instrument panel 12 side, and a second inflation portion 46, which is deployed to a vehicle occupant knee side. A gas supply opening 42, to which gas ejected from an inflator 22 is supplied, is disposed at a first inflation portion 38 side. The gas supply opening 42, and the pair of protection portions 46 provided at left and right end portions of knee airbag 36, are provided on substantially the same line in a vehicle lateral direction, and the first inflation portion 36 communicates the two as a gas flow path. Therefore, in a frontal collision, even if a space 48 between the instrument panel 12 and the knees of the vehicle occupant is small, the pair of protection portions 46 can be quickly inflated and deployed to the small space 48.

    Abstract: A column-mounted knee airbag device in which a knee airbag can be correctly deployed even when the position of a steering column has changed due to a telescopic function. The column-mounted knee airbag device 10 is equipped with a knee airbag 42 folded inside a column cover 15 covering a steering column main body 14 having a telescopic function, and an inflator 40 that generates gas when a vehicle impact is detected or predicted. The knee airbag 42 opens an airbag door 38 of a column cover 15 by deployment pressure when supplied with gas, and deploys between an instrument panel 22 and the knees K of a driver. Gas ejection holes 48 that supply gas from the inflator 40 to the knee airbag 42 are disposed, when viewed from the side with the steering column in a state positioned furthest to the front due to a telescopic function, further to the rear than the instrument panel 22 in the vehicle front-rear direction.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a knee protective device capable of suppressing increase of weight or volume, absorbing kinetic energy of knees at the time of vehicle collision, and protecting knees. SOLUTION: The knee protective device S1 has a knee protective panel 21 drawn out to a front side of the knees K of an occupant M by a driving mechanism 30 at the time of the vehicle collision. The panel 21 has a panel main body 22, and shock absorbing material 25 positioned at a front face side of the panel main body 22, capable of being plastically deformed so as to absorb the kinetic energy. The driving mechanism 30 has a support plate 33 for supporting the shock absorbing material 25, and a driving source 31 for drawing out the support plate 33 to the front side of the knees K along with the panel 21 at the time of the vehicle collision. The shock absorbing material 25 gradually reduces a cross section in a vertical direction from a panel main body side to a support plate side by making projection area of fore-and-aft direction smaller than the panel main body 22.     Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a knee protector capable of securing a protection area to be large and exactly protecting the knee of a driver. SOLUTION: The knee protector S is arranged under a steering column 6 on the front side of the knee K of the sitting driver MD, a restraining body 44 connected with a driving mechanism 52 is moved to the back side of the vehicle in operating the driving mechanism 52, and the knee K is protected by the surface on the vehicle back side of the restraining body 44. The steering column 6 has a column body 7 and a column cover 10 arranged so as to cover the periphery of the column body 7. The column cover 10 has a downside cover section 15 for covering the driver MD side on the downside of the column body 7. The lower end proximity of the downside cover section 15 is connected with the proximity of the upper end of the restraining body 44, and the downside cover section 15 can be moved to the back side of the vehicle together with the restraining body 44 in operating the driving mechanism 52.
