Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve random access, even if lengthening GOP.SOLUTION: A P-picture used for a randomly accessible access point is coded as an access point P-picture based on an I-picture located at the beginning of a video information unit to which the P-picture belongs or a preceding P-picture predicted without a B-picture. For pictures after the access point P-picture, a P-picture and a B-picture are coded, where the P-picture and the B-picture are predicted from the immediately preceding access point P-picture, or a P-picture or a B-picture predicted from the access point P-picture, and predicted without the pictures before the immediately preceding access point P-picture.

The PlayList management table indicates a playback control of the PlayList that is performed during the life cycle simultaneously with the execution of the application.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interactive television program guide system with a digital storage.SOLUTION: A program guide allows a user to define "super-programs" for playback of a sequence of stored programs or program segments. The program guide also gives a user the ability to store information associated with recorded programs in a directory in the digital storage device, providing easy access to program information. The program guide may also provide a global media library for indicating the programs stored on removable storage media used with the program guide. The program guide may also allow a user to manage and maintain a user media library for the user to do the same. Non-time-sensitive data associated with recorded programs may be stored in a way that allows the user to interact with the data on playback as if the program were being originally aired.
