Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct switching of wavelength using a laser. SOLUTION: A variable wavelength light source is provided with a laser 1, with which an oscillation condition can be switched between two oscillation conditions entailing the change of an oscillation wavelength, and a light selection element 1000 which selects the output light in one of two oscillation conditions of the laser 1. The switching of an output light in either of oscillation conditions of the two oscillation conditions of the laser 1 can be selected by the light selection element 1000. A waveguide variable zone can be used for both oscillation conditions using a laser with which the oscillation wavelength can be changed for the respective oscillation condition.
