    Abstract: PURPOSE:To make it possible to control the 90 deg. switching of domain and thus the reduction of displacement of piezoelectric ceramics by polarizing the ceramics of granular structure while applying pressure thereto in the direction perpendicular to that of polarization. CONSTITUTION:In polarizing piezoelectric ceramics of granular structure, typified by PZTs, applying pressure in the direction perpendicular to that of polarization makes it easier to align polarization axes in the direction perpendicular to that of pressure application, that is, in the direction of electric field, by means of mechanical force. Polarization by the method increases the amount of polarization axes aligned in the direction of electric field, and accordingly the amount of residual polarization axes after the removal of the electric field is also increased. In thus polarized piezoelectric ceramics, therefore, the 90 deg. switching of domain is effectively controlled even in use under condition of high temperature, high voltage or high pressure. This makes it possible to control the degradation of piezoelectric distortion constant and prevent the reduction of displacement.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To readily and stably obtain a piezoelectric ceramic having excellent durability to driving by adding a specific amount of lanthanum element when PbTiO3-PbZrO3 based piezoelectric ceramic is produced. CONSTITUTION:Powder containing each powder of PbO, TiO3 and ZrO2 at prescribed ratio is mixed together with water by a ball mill and dehydrated, dried and calcined to afford powdery raw material. The powder is again charged in the ball mill and a prescribed amount of La2O3 powder is added to the powder and these components are mixed in wet state and dehydrated and dried to give a PZT powdery raw material. A binder is added to the raw material to granulate the raw material and the granulate is formed to afford a formed product. The forming is carried out so that 1-5mol% tantalum is contained in 100mol% total amount of lead element in the formed body, which body is heated and retained and sintered in a density lower than ideal density to provide a primary sintered compact. The sintered compact is subjected to HIP treatment which is sintered under high temperature and high pressure and the resultant sintered compact is subjected to after-processing. By the method, grain diameter of the primary sintered compact can be minimized to provide the objective piezoelectric ceramic.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To form an uniform forming body with high density by imparting a hydrostatic pressure under imparting ultrasonic vibration on the hydrostatic pressurizing die filling up a powder. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic generation element 4 is provided in a hydrostatic pressure device 1 and the flexible rubber die 5 packing a powder 6 in the liquid is arranged. An ultrasonic vibration is transmitted via a medium by actuating the ultrasonic generation element 4 by pressurizing with a water leading pump 3, discharging valve 2 and press 8. The powder uniformly packed is thus uniformly pressurized, the particles inside a forming die are coagulated in arrangement with vibrating by the ultrasonic vibration to remove the enclosed air, etc., from the powder body inner part and the uniform forming body of high density having no generation of the uneven density at the inner and outer parts of the forming body is obtd.
