Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress and prevent the obstruction of contraction action of a column tube at a collision as much as possible. SOLUTION: A module case 48 of an airbag module 54 is supported on a rear end side of an inner tube 26 by a mounting bracket 70. The mounting bracket 70 is slidably formed of a first bracket 78 and second bracket 80. An opening 72 is formed in a bottom wall part 48C of the module case 48. When an airbag 52 is inflated, a part 52C thereof is extruded out of the opening 72 to press the inner tube 26. The airbag module 54 is slid downward by the reaction R. The column lower cover 22 is also separated. In this way, the interference between the airbag module 54 and the bottom 40A in the housing 40 can be avoided at the contraction of the column. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a knee-protecting airbag apparatus capable of suppressing the opening resistance of an airbag cover covering a stored airbag, and securing the prompt deploying/expanding of the airbag from a storage part without unnecessarily improving the inner pressure of the airbag in an expansion early stage. SOLUTION: The knee-protecting airbag apparatus M1 is mounted to a column cover 16 covering a steering column 3. The airbag apparatus M1 comprises the airbag folded and stored, and arranged on the front side of knees of a driver while being deployed and expanded by making an expansion gas flow therein upon actuation; and the airbag cover 33 pushed by the expanding airbag to open doors 34, 38, and forming a projecting opening 22 of the airbag 45 at the column cover 16. The airbag cover 33 is arranged at the column cover 16 while having a separating surface SP previously separated to the peripheral edge of the projecting opening 22 from a state before opening at a part of the outer peripheral edge of the doors so as to suppress resistance when the doors portions are opened. SOLUTION: A center line Lb' in a vehicle width direction of the knee airbag 24 in an deployment completion state is offset to the side of which the gap between the lap part (right lap part 14R, left lap part 14L) and the rear surface 16R of the instrument panel 16 is larger, which is either of the right or left of the steering column 18, regarding an axial line Lc of the steering column 18. Even when the gap between the lap part of the passenger 14 and the rear surface 16R of the instrument panel 16 differs between right and left of the steering column 18, it is possible to reduce influence on the side of which the gap is smaller by deploying the knee airbag 24 with offset to the larger gap side. Abstract: A knee airbag device includes a knee airbag that is disposed in a folded state inside a steering column cover. When the knee airbag receives gas, the knee airbag is inflated and deployed from the inside of the steering column cover toward the knee portion of an occupant. The knee airbag includes an instrument panel-side foundation cloth positioned close to an instrument panel when the knee airbag is deployed, an occupant-side foundation cloth positioned close to the occupant when the knee airbag is deployed, and a first strap and a second strap that connect the instrument panel-side foundation cloth and the occupant-side foundation cloth. When the knee airbag is deployed, the first strap is positioned above the second strap and the length of the first strap in a vehicle-longitudinal direction is set to be larger than the length of the second strap in the vehicle-longitudinal direction.

Abstract: A knee airbag device includes an airbag module and an airbag door. The airbag module includes a gas generation device that is operated when the knee airbag device is operated, and a knee airbag that is stored in a folded state inside a column cover that covers the rear end portion of a steering column. When the knee airbag receives gas from the gas generation device, the knee airbag is inflated and deployed toward the knee of an occupant. The airbag door, provided in the lower portion of the column cover, is made of a flexible material. When the knee airbag is inflated and deployed, the airbag door is opened toward the knee of the occupant due to an airbag inflation pressure.

The steering column includes a movable member for moving toward the front side of a vehicle along the axial direction of the column at the time when an impact on the front of the vehicle acts, and an unmoving stationary member, so that the column can absorb the impact when the movable member moves. The case is attached to such an area of the movable member that the case hits the stationary member when the moving member moves and absorbs impact, and the case can be deformed before or at the time of hitting the stationary member so that the moving stroke of the movable member is preserved when it moves.
