Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonsteroidal medicament capable of preventing or treating various diseases for which immune system abnormality is supposed to be a cause through significantly regulating immune system without involving such serious side effects as to be seen in steroidal medicaments.
SOLUTION: The medicament is an immunoregulator comprising nafamostat mesilate(FUT) as an active ingredient. Relevant immunoregulatory activities include infiltration inhibitory activity on inflammatory cells into inflammation-affected parts, inflammatory cytokine production inhibitory activity at sites with inflammation, inhibitory activity for NF-κB activation, and expression inhibitory activity for co-stimulatory molecules on macrophage. This immunoregulator has surprising effect, in immunoregulatory activity, of as high as about 320 times compared to other medicaments known as similar protease inhibitors, being extremely high in curative effect.
