Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing glucose from polyglucose such as cellulose, and to provide a method for producing a solid catalyst used for the method.
SOLUTION: The method for producing the glucose includes: a step of heating active carbon in concentrated sulfuric acid or fuming sulfuric acid, and thereby obtaining sulfonated active carbon; and a step of heating the polyglucose in the presence of the sulfonated active carbon and water, and thereby hydrolyzing the polyglucose.
