Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing technology of an aromatic aldehyde by photoreaction with using a catalyst having both characteristics of a photocatalyst and a sensitizer, easy to recovery and recycle like the photocatalyst and capable of efficiently using light in a visible light region like the sensitizer which is an organic compound.SOLUTION: An oxidation of a methyl group bound to an aromatic ring is conducted by photoreaction using a catalyst obtained by immobilizing anthraquinone carboxylic acid represented by the general formula (1) to an alumina particle to manufacture an aromatic aldehyde.
