PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium processing device able to perform appropriate printing at a predetermined position on a recording medium even if the recording medium in a different attitude is taken in.SOLUTION: Based on the detection result of a detection mechanism 16 that detects which one of one side and another side of a recording medium is facing the side of a magnetic head 24 when the recording medium is taken into a medium conveyance path 13, a control part of the medium processing device 1 actuates a moving mechanism 38 or moving mechanism 39, and disposes a thermal head 36 or thermal head 37 in the position to come into contact with the recording medium. In addition, based on the read result of magnetic data at a magnetic head 24 or magnetic head 25, the control part determines that the recording medium is taken into the medium conveyance path 13 from which one of one end side and another end side thereof. Based on the determination result, the control part causes the thermal head 36 or thermal head 37 to perform printing on the recording medium while performing the temperature control of the thermal head 36 or thermal head 37 and the conveyance control of the recording medium.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium processing device which can smoothly shift a medium toward a conveyance reference surface, and prevent any damage during the conveyance even if the medium is weak in strength, and being miniaturized.SOLUTION: The medium processing device 1 includes a conveying passage 10 on which a medium 2 is conveyed, a conveying means for conveying the medium 2, and an evacuation passage 52 which is connected to the conveying passage 10 to evacuate at least a part of the medium 2 from the conveying passage 10. The conveyance reference surface of the medium 2 is formed on one side of the medium width direction orthogonal to the conveying direction of the medium 2 of the conveying passage 10. The conveying means includes a conveying roller 20 for conveying the medium 2, and opposing rollers 22 which are arranged opposing the conveying roller 20. The opposing rollers 22 are supported so that the conveyance reference surface and the reverse side thereof of the opposing rollers 22 are displaceable in the conveying direction. The conveying means reciprocally conveys the medium 2 therein by using the evacuation passage 52 when shifting the medium 2 to the conveyance reference surface.

SOLUTION: A card reader 1 is provided with: a magnetic head 3 for reading magnetic data recorded in a card 2, and/or for recording the magnetic data in the card 2; and a gate mechanism 6 formed with an insertion port 5 into which the card 2 is inserted, and disposed at the end of the removal direction of the card 2 of the card reader 1. The gate mechanism 6 is formed with a notch part 11a notched toward the insertion direction of the card 2. The notch part 11a is formed at almost the same position as the position where the magnetic head 3 is disposed in the width direction of the card 2 which is almost orthogonal to the insertion direction of the card 2. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium processing apparatus which is capable of fast processing a recording medium and can be small-sized in a conveying direction of the recording medium.SOLUTION: A medium processing apparatus 1 comprises magnetic heads 24, 26, 28 confronted to a medium conveyance path from a lower side, magnetic heads 25, 27, 29 confronted to the medium conveyance path 13 from an upper side, pad rollers 45-50 disposed while being opposed to the magnetic heads 24-29, a moving mechanism 51 which retracts the pad rollers 45, 47, 49 from the medium conveyance path 13, and a moving mechanism 52 which retracts the pad rollers 46, 48, 50 from the medium conveyance path 13. In a conveying direction of a recording medium, the magnetic head 24 (26, 28) and the magnetic head 25 (27, 29) are deviated from each other and a distance between the magnetic head 24 (26, 28) and the magnetic head 25 (27, 29) in this direction is shorter than a length of a recording range for magnetic data to be recorded in magnetic stripes of the recording medium.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a card reader capable of preventing phishing and capable of not damaging a card in a situation in which phishing does not occur. SOLUTION: A card reader 1, which is provided with a card transport mechanism for performing capture and ejection of a card 2, is provided with a gate mechanism 6 upon which is formed an insertion/ejection slot 5 for insertion and ejection of the card 2. Upon the gate mechanism 6 is formed a protruding portion 11b protruding toward the ejection direction of the card 2. In addition, the gate mechanism 6 is provided with a card detection mechanism 14 for detecting when the card 2 has been ejected by the card transport mechanism to a removable position at which the card 2 can be removed by a user of the card reader 1, and a card removal prevention mechanism 15 for preventing removal of the card 2 when the card 2 has not been ejected to a removable position at a time of ejection of the card 2.
