Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject polymer, capable of readily preparing raw materials, easily handleable using simple reaction operation and useful as inorganic fiber, etc., by reacting a specific Si-containing starting substance with a Ti-containing starting substance in a specified proportion. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer obtained reacting (A) a solution containing a partial hydrolyzate of a tetra-alkoxysiane having 1-4C alkoxy groups as a silicon-containing starting substance with (B) a solution containing bisacetylacetonatotitanium diisopropoxide and/or bisethylacetoacetatotitanium diisopropoxide as a titanium-containing starting substance at 0.5-20.0 atomic ratio of Si/Ti. Furthermore, the hydrolyzate of the component (A) is preferably obtained by partially hydrolyzing a 1-4C tetra-alkoxysilane at -50 to +50 deg.C under conditions so as to provide 1.5-4.0 molar ratio of water/the aforementioned silane.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To contain many pitch fibers with good coherency, by applying a binder to the main pitch fibers melt discharged from a bushing with a special device, bringing the fibers into contact with a take-off roll, passing the fibers through an air ejector and containing the fibers in a container. CONSTITUTION:A binder is applied to many pitch fibers (F) melt discharged from a bushing 10 using a roll type binder application device 11 and the fibers are then passed through a collector 12 and collected to give one strand (S), which is then brought into contact with a take-off roll 13, urged, passed through an air ejector 14 and contained in a container basket 15 while peeled from the take-off roll 13. An air ejector 14 hardly producing helical air streams is preferred for the air ejector 14.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title strand having high density, low transport cost, excellent processability etc., by making pitch fibers cut into a given length infusible, carbonized and graphitized in a high-density and highly accumulated state and thereafter adding thereto a specified amt. of a binder to adhere them together. CONSTITUTION:Pitch fibers are prepd. by spinning petroleum or coal pitch and cut into a desired length. Then chopped carbon fiber or graphite fiber strands are prepd. by making pitch fibers infusible, carbonized and graphitized in a high-density and highly accumulated state by conventional methods. The aimed chopped carbon fiber strand is obtd. by adding 0.1-3wt% inorg. binder (e.g. colloidal silica) and/or org. binder (e.g. polyvinyl acetate emulsion) to adhere them together. The chopped strand thus obtd. can be pref. used for reinforcing material for cement materials, reinforced composite materials, etc.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the titled modified cross-section glass fibers by providing plural nozzle holes respectively to plural chips protruded from a nozzle plate, and binding molten glasses spinned out from the nozzle holes to each other to obtain a single monofilament. CONSTITUTION:Plural chips 17 are protruded from the lower surface of the nozzle plate 12, and plural nozzle holes 18A and 18B are provided to each chip 17. Molten glass is spinned out from the nozzle holes 18A and 18B. The spinned molten glasses spinned out from the nozzle holes are bound at each chip 17 to obtain a single monofilament 20. Consequently, the paralleling action is facilitated at the start of spinning or in cutting, the glass in the furnace is never devitrified, and the modified cross-section glass fibers can be stably obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To melt precursor pitch so as to obtain a bubble-free molten pitch, thereby enabling a carbon filament excellent in properties to be manufactured, by heating precursor pitch pulverized to a predetermined size under reduced pressure before spinning. CONSTITUTION:Solid precursor pitch is provided by subjecting a crude material such as coal tar pitch or petroleum pitch to, according to need, distillation, heat treatment, filtration, hydrogeneration, solvent fractionation, and other treatments so as to remove low-boiling volatile components, insoluble solid component, etc., contained in the pitch and to attain composition homogenization, weight increase, etc., thereby obtaining an optically isotropic or anisotropic, spinnable pitch. The precursor pitch is granulated so as to have a grain size as minute as 60 mesh or less. A melting oven 1 is filled with the pitch. A suction pump 2 is operated and valves 3 and 4 are opened to reduce the pressure of the melting oven 1 to 5Torr or less while heating at 300-400 deg.C, thereby effecting the melting and bubble removal from the granullar precursor pitch. An inert gas is introduced into the melting oven 1 and a spinning oven 10, and thereafter the molten pitch is transferred to the spinning oven 10 and extruded through a nozzle 14 to obtain a filament 15.

Abstract: PURPOSE:Melted pitch of coal or petroleum is made into fibers using a spinning unit which is composed of a nozzle device having a plate with a plurality of holes bored and of an electrically heating device surrounding the nozzle device to give pitch fibers of very good quality. CONSTITUTION:Melted coal or petroleum pitch is introduced into a nozzle device 16 which is composed of a plate 16b having a plurality of nozzle holes 16a bored. The temperature is controlled here by the electrically heating device including terminals 18 which is electrically connected to the periphery of the nozzle plate 16b. As a result, the melted pitch is kept at a low temperature before it reaches the nozzle device 16 and steeply heated up in a short time, when it passes through nozzle holes 16a to enable the pitch to be formed into fibers in low viscosity, resulting in formation of uniform fibers.
