Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bill processing apparatus capable of confirming whether actually received bills have been surely returned or not.SOLUTION: The bill processing apparatus includes: a bill receiving port; a bill recognition unit which recognizes peculiar information of received bills conveyed from the bill receiving port; a bill storage unit in which the received bills are accumulated; a conveyance control unit which controls conveyance of the received bills so that the received bills conveyed from the bill receiving port to the bill recognition unit are directly conveyed to the bill storage unit, and on detection of an instruction to return the received bill, controls conveyance of the received bills so that the received bills are conveyed from the bill storage unit to the bill recognition unit; and a comparison unit which compares peculiar information recognized during first conveyance from the bill receiving port to the bill recognition unit with peculiar information recognized during second conveyance from the bill storage unit to the bill recognition unit.
