摘要: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing anthraquinone from anthracene, which method is environmentally favorable and gives anthraquinone at a good cost efficiency in a high yield.
SOLUTION: This method produces anthraquinone by the catalytic oxidation of anthracene and comprises subjecting anthracene to the actions of oxygen and light in the liquid phase of a carboxylic acid medium in the presence of an organometallic salt and an activator for the salt at about 40°C or higher and isolating thus obtained reaction product from the reaction mixture.

SOLUTION: This method for producing the 9,10-dihydroxyanthracenecarboxylic ester or the derivative thereof by the catalytic oxidation of anthracene, comprises subjecting anthracene in a liquid phase to the actions of oxygen and light in a carboxylic acid medium in the presence of an organometallic salt and an activator for the organometallic salt at about 40°C or higher, separating the precipitate, treating the liquid residue with an esterifying agent, and isolating the ester obtained from the reaction mixture.
