    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool capable of easily and surely taking out a optical fiber core from the inside of a spacer without touching the fiber. SOLUTION: In the opened state of handles 4a, 4b, the side wall of the spacer 21 is held between the insides of spacer grasping parts 1a, 1b and catches 2a, 2b. When the handles 4a, 4b are closed, the grasping parts 1a, 1b are rotated around a shaft 5 and an aperture part is extended so as to lay the side wall of the spacer 21 to the outside. Therefore projections 3a, 3b are abutted on the bottom wall of the spacer 21 to push up the spacer 21 so as to furthermore expand the aperture part of the spacer 21. Consequently the aperture part of the spacer 21 can be easily, surely and widely expanded, so that a stored optical fiber core can easily be taken out.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent positional deviation of a resin unit. SOLUTION: The synthetic resin unit 10 is formed of a thermoplastic resin over the entire part and has a recessed housing groove 12 for housing a prescribed number of optical fibers or optical fiber ribbons formed in its central part. The unit is formed into a substantially U shape in its cross section. This housing groove 12 is formed with S-Z twists of the same inversion angle and twist pitch as those of a spiral spacer. The synthetic resin unit 10 is formed by stranding plural pieces of the fibers or ribbons to the S-Z form on the outer periphery of the spiral spacer or tension member in the state of tight contact with each other in the circumferential direction. The unit 10 is packed with a groove packing resin 16 consisting of a peelable thermoplastic resin which does not exhibit compatibility with the thermoplastic resin of the unit 10 even in a fused state by co-extrusion on the circumference thereof around a tensile strength member 14 in the housing groove 12.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber unit having excellent workability for intermediate post branching and an optical cable formed by using the unit. SOLUTION: The optical fiber unit (A) is constituted by twisting four pieces of coated optical fibers 1 provided with coatings or longitudinally placing these coated fibers, integrating fibers, arranging the coated fibers approximately point symmetrically and forming an internal resin layer 2 by a solid resin material. The optical fiber unit (B) is provided with an external resin layer and the solid resin is packed into the clearances facing the outside of the adjacent coated optical fibers 1, by which the external resin layer 3 is formed. The resin is packed to the extent of not exceeding a circumcircle 4 or tangent 5. The resin adheres locally on the surfaces of the coating of the coated optical fibers, thereby coupling the coated optical fibers 1 to each other.

SOLUTION: A plastic coating constituted of a neck part 5, etc., has a narrow width part at a connecting part between a coated part on a tension member and a coated part on coated optical fibers in the optical cable for the subscribers which is constituted by arranging the tension member 1 and the coated optical fiber 2 in parallel and integrally applying plastic thereon. Two longitudinally continuously notches 4 in a position symmetrical with respect to a plane passing through the center line of the coated optical fibers 2 and the tension member 1 is disposed on the surface of the coating on the coated optical fibers 2, and the position thereof is specified, and thus, the coated optical fibers 2 are easily taken out without being damaged.

Blocking members 4 provided between the lower ends 2 of the right and left side walls are provided intermittently at proper intervals along the length of the self- support type cable and hold the optical cable 5 so that the optical cable is not slackened out. An open part is formed between adjacent blocking members 4. Each blocking member 4 is provided with a cut 4a along the length and can be opened and closed at this part.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide an aerial optical cable which allows the easy conduction of a branching and dropping operation from an aerial optical cable and necessitates a smaller branching part. CONSTITUTION: A central member 2 is circumferentially inscribed with S-twist slots 3 into which a small number of optical fiber cables 1 are respectively removably mounted. Each optical fiber cable 1 has a cylindrical metallic pipe 6 in a sheath 5 and has one or two coated optical fibers 7 in the space of the metallic pipe 6. The sectional shape of the S-twist slots 3 is approximately U-shaped. Plural number of optical fiber cables 1 are strongly pressed in the central direction of the central member 2 when the aerial optical cable is installed. The optical fiber cables 1 to be branched are cut at the point of the place extended a prescribed distance from a branching point at the time of branching and dropping the cables. The cables are then pulled apart from the slots 3, are taken out to the branch point, are fixed by fixing parts and are used as they are as outdoor optical cables.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide an optical cable which has a sufficient waterproof characteristic and with which the accurate execution of the surplus length control of optical unit is possible. CONSTITUTION:Spacer members 2 having grooves 3 are spirally twisted together with a prescribed spacing around a central tensile body 1. Water-absorbent swelling tapes 8 are inserted into the spacings between the optical units and water-absorbent swelling tapes 5 are wound thereon, on which retaining windings 6 are formed and a sheath 7 is applied. The water-absorbent swelling tapes 5 are formed by applying a water-absorbent swelling material on one or both surface of a base material. Intrusion of the water-absorbent swelling materials into the grooves 3 of the optical units does not arise and increasing of transmission loss does not arise neither. The running water characteristic is good as comparied with the running water characteristic of the optical cable having the conventional structure.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To raise the upper limit value of the input power to optical fibers determined by Brillouin scattering. CONSTITUTION:The optical fibers 2 are twisted around a tension member 1 and twists are applied to the respective optical fibers 2. The size of the twists changes periodically with the longitudinal direction of the cable. A distribution of strains is imparted in the longitudinal direction of the optical cable, by which the Brillouin gain band width is widened and the upper limit value of the input power can be raised. The twists applied to the optical fibers is fixed by a resin 3 and a sheath 4 is applied thereon.
