Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing methylene norcamphor under mild conditions.
SOLUTION: The method for producing methylene norcamphor comprises (A) carrying out a reaction between formaldehyde and norcamphor under heating at ≥60°C in the presence of a secondary amine and an organic acid, or (B) carrying out a reaction between an aqueous formaldehyde solution( formalin ) and norcamphor under heating at ≥60°C in the presence of a secondary amine and an organic acid. In this method, (1) prior to or during the reaction under heating, an extraction solvent for the methylene norcamphor is added, or (2) after the reaction under heating, the extraction solvent for the methylene norcamphor is added followed by heating to ≥60°C.
