PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication device suitable for a building provided with a plurality of houses that communally receive an audiovisual signal of a high-frequency band. SOLUTION: The communication device is used for a communication system in which an indoor communication line 110 laid on a building 90 having a plurality of houses 200, 210 communally receiving an audiovisual signal of a high-frequency band is used as a signal transmission path. The building 90 is provided with a community reception terminal section (an amplifier 101 and a splitter 102) for communally receiving an audiovisual signal of a high-frequency band, and a plurality of branch communication lines 111-114 for transmitting the audiovisual signal from the community reception terminal section to the respective houses. Then, the building 90 includes a first communication device (master modem 10) for modulating a digital audiovisual signal in a low-frequency band being lower than the high-frequency band, and injecting the result to the vicinity of the community reception terminal section. SOLUTION: In the system performs communication by turning an indoor electric power line 20 disposed inside a PLC user house 10 into a signal transmission line, sub modems 2a and 2b are connected to the indoor electric power line 20 through the terminating ends (outlets 205A and 205B) of the indoor electric power line 20, and terminal equipment 204A and 204B such as personal computers are connected to the sub modems 2a and 2b. The sub modems 2a and 3b communicate with each other through a main modem 1 without directly transmitting or receiving communication signals. SOLUTION: The communication system uses as a signal transmission path an in-house communication line 110 laid in the building 90 having a plurality of housings 200, 210 receiving the video/audio signals of a high-frequency band in community. The building 90 is provided with a community receiving terminal unit (amplifier 101, distributor 102) for receiving the video/audio signals of a high-frequency band in community, and a plurality of branch communication lines 111-114 for transmitting the video/audio signals from the receiving terminal unit to each of the housings in community.
