Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable to move a suction piston smoothly and with high response, by fitting a bearing to a suction piston shaft of a variable venturi carburetor. CONSTITUTION:A bearing 13 is inserted into an annular space 12 formed between a suction piston shaft 9 and a support sleeve 10. The bearing 13 consists of a hollow cylindrical sleeve 14, and a plurality of ball inserting holes 15 are formed in the outer peripheral surface of the sleeve 14 at its opposite end parts in the manner that they are spaced equiangularly from each other. Further, if a plurality of communicating grooves 19 are formed in the outer surface of the sleeve 14 to extend in the axial direction of the sleeve 14, air in a vacuum chamber 28 is enabled to flow freely into an internal chamber 38, so that negative pressure in the internal chamber 38 is made equal to that in the vacuum chamber 28. Therefore, the bearing 13 can be always held at the central part between snap rings 20 and 21, so that a suction piston 3 can be moved smoothly.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve purging of a large amount of unburnt HC, CO produced without using an expensive device even if fuel-air mixture is brought to an excessive rich state, by a method wherein the air-fuel ratio of the fuel-air mixture is maintained at a specified value, and a temperature sensitive switch is provided. CONSTITUTION:Secondary air is intermittently fed in an exhaust manifold 3 at the 1-2HZ frequency of a pulse generator 71 from a secondary air feed control valve 50. Since fuel-air mixture, produced in a carbretter 2, is normally maintained at a specified value, the air-fuel ratio is varied at the 1-2HZ frequency within a range of from + or -0.2 to + or -1.0 based on an approximately theoretical air-fuel ratio. Besides, the mean value is maintained within a window W0, and thereby a high purging efficiency may be obtained through utilization of the oxygen holding function of a ternary monolith catalyst 5. When an engine body or the carbretter 2 is increased in temperature, a temperature-sensitive switch 72 is turned ON, secondary air continues to be fed, and this improves purging of a large amount of unburnt HC, CO produced.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To secure a high purification efficiency in the transient operation of an engine, by changing to a larger second value the amplitude of a drive signal for a solenoid valve for opening and closing an air bleed passage, in the transient operation. CONSTITUTION:When the negative pressure in an intake manifold 1 has sharply changed, namely, transient operation is performed, the movable contact 68 of a transient operation detector 60 comes into touch with one of fixed contacts 69, 70 to apply a voltage to turn off a first analogue switch 53 and turn on a second analogue switch 54. As a result, a saw-toothed voltage of larger amplitude is applied to a voltage-current converter 55 to increase the change width of the cross-sectional area of the opening of a valve port 37 to enlarge the fluctuation width of the air-fuel ratio of a mixture. Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent eccentric wear of a needle due to vibraion by eliminating a contact between a needle and a jet of a variable venturi carburetter within the operational range of high suction air volume.
CONSTITUTION: A piston 1 engaged with a metering needle 3 on the end of the piston, is installed inside a suction chamber 14 of a carburetter 10, making a sliding motion in proportion to the negative pressure of a venturi member 13. The needle 3 normally brought into constant with a part of a jet by a projection 24 installed on a holder 4', makes a sliding motion. A needle holder 17 is concentrically formed in a rod guide 15 provided inside the suction chamber 14, while a guide 16 is bored on the end of the needle holder 17. In the operational range of low air volume for an engine, the needle 3 is positioned as illustrated, making a contact with the jet 7 while the other end of the needle 3 is inserted into the guide 16 and the contact between the needle 3 and the jet 7 disappears in the operational region of high air volume.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To properly control an air bleed hole provided in a jet and reduce wear out of needle by contacting the needle of a variable venturi carburetter to the jet within the region of low suction air volume and by loosely fitting them within the region of high air volume.
CONSTITUTION: A piston 1 is installed inside a suction chamber 14 of a carburetter 10. The end of the piston 1 is connected to a metering neddle 5. The needle 5 makes a sliding motion, partially in contact with a jet 8 by a projection 22 inside a holder 3', and adjusts an air bleed hole 34 bored in the jet 8. At expansion member 27 is fastened to the end of the needle 8, and moves inside a large-sized member 31 and a small-sized member 30 of a well 26. As the expansion member 27 contacts the small-sized member 30 within the region of high air volume, the needle 5 and the jet 8 are loosely fitted, thereby increasing the opening area of the bleed hole 34.
