PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of brassinosteroid-like substances excellent in functions and effects improving with microdose, various vegetable physiological activity such as plant growth promotion, vessel bundle differentiation promotion and stress resistance improvement. SOLUTION: The brassinosteroid-like substances are economically much provided from crude glycerol by-produced in production process of biodiesel fuel and the washing liquid generated in purification of BDF (R), and the brassinosteroid-like substances are also directly provided from waste edible oil of industrial wastes. Thereby, due to possibility of economically much producing the brassinosteroid-like substances, present worldwide agricultural problems, food problems, local development and people employment problems as biomass business, formation of recycling society of local production for local consumption in the region, and above all, as an aid of global warming prevention, emission reduction of CO 2 and enlargement of absorbing source can be settled. A novel mammalian dihydroouabain-like factor is disclosed which substantially fails to cross-react with mammalian ouabain-like factor (OLF) for binding to anti-OLF antibody, but cross-reacts with plant-related dihydroouabain (dho) for binding to anti-dho antibody, has maximal u.v. absorbance at 196 nm, has a non-peptidic, non-lipidic chemical structure and a fully hydrogenated lactone ring, has a concentration-dependent Na + ,K + -ATPase (sodium pump) catalytic inhibitory activity which is 10-fold lower than OLF and 3-fold higher than plant-related dihydroouabain, and a high pressure liquid chromatography elution time about the same as dho. This factor is useful for therapy for congestive heart failure. An antibody and antibody fragments having affinity for mammalian Dh-OLF but not for OLF, and diagnostic and therapeutic methods comprise the antibody and means for quantifying the antibody and are useful for treating a condition caused by high level of OLF or Dh-OLF. Two isomers of plant-related dihydroouabain have been isolated. These compositions and methods are suitable for characterizing a variety of diseases and conditions associated with reduced sodium pump activity.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide preparations for intravenous administration, liniments for the skin and membranes, and other skin and membrane care preparations or make-up preparations and fertilizing components, based on new ginesenosides derivatives especially dihydroxyginesenoside Rb1 , or epoxyginesenoside Rb1 , which is useful as an antiapoptosis agent, anagenetic and reconstructive accelerating agent for dermal tissues or an accelerating agent for healing wounds. SOLUTION: This pharmaceutical preparation is based on a ginesenoside derivative especially dihydroxyginesenoside Rb1 or epoxy ginesenoside Rb1 to constitute preparations for intravenous administration, membrane and skin care liniments or make-up preparations. This preparation is especially effective to counteract aspects of aging in the skin or membrane, as an anagenetic and reconstructive promoter involved in incised wounds, open wounds, bites and defects, an accelerating agent for healing wounds or effective also for the prevention, treatment or therapy of diseases associated with apoptosis. Another plant or animal growth regulating preparation includes a ginesenocide derivative, especially dihydroxyginesenoside Rb1 or epoxyginesenoside Rb1 .

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an animicrobial which possesses excellent antimicrobial activity and is excellent in stability and safety and a low stimulative antimicrobial cosmetic material. SOLUTION: This antimicrobial is prepared by formulating one or more than two kinds selected from a group consisting of (+)-lyoniresinol-3 α-O-α-L- rhamnopyranoside, (-)-lyoniresinol-3 α-O-β-D-xylopyranoside, 9,9'-dil0-feruloyl-(-) secoisolariciresinol, acerogenin E, 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenol-β-D-apiofuranosyl-(1,6)-β- Dglucopyranoside, 4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-butanol-2-O-β-D-apiofuranosyl-(1,6)-βD- glucopyranoside, (+)-catechin-7-O-β-D-xylopyranoside, lupeol and monogynol A, which are obtained by fractionating and purifying antimicrobial fractions obtained from bark extracts of one or more than two kinds of the genus Betula tauschii, with a solvent or a base. These antimicrobials are formulated with cosmetic materials.

PURPOSE: To provided a plant growth promotor which has a phytohormone action, to promote the growth of plants markedly, can be produced inexpensively and shows high safety to human bodies. CONSTITUTION: This plant growth accelerator agent contains oligogalacturonic acid or its salt as an active ingredient. The oligogalacturonic acid is a substance comprising α1-4 bonded 2 or teens of galacturonic acid or partially methyl- carboxyl esterified galacturonic acid, which is formed on decomposition of pectin or poly(galacturonic acid). When this agent is added to the water in the water culture, its concentration is preferably 0.01-1% and the same level of the concentration is desired in the foliage treatment, too.

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject controlling agent preventing injurious marine organisms from growing thick as a result of their attaching to ship bottoms, fishnets, buoys, or intake channels, containing, as active ingredient, a compound except organotin compounds, i.e., sarasinoside C1 highly safe and having excel lent controlling effect. CONSTITUTION:This controlling agent contains, as active ingredient, sarasinoside C1 of the formula which is obtained, for example, by purifying the methanol extract from Asteropus-sarasinosum, a kind of sponge. The sarasinoside C1 may be used singly, or as its mixture with other controlling agent(s). This controlling agent can be used after preparation in the form of coating, solution or emulsion, or can be used after its incorporation in materials to be used undersea such as concrete or high-molecular resin materials such as in the form of fishnets.
