Abstract:
Diffractive pigment flakes are selectively aligned to form an image. In one embodiment, flakes having a magnetic layer are shaped to facilitate alignment in a magnetic field. In another embodiment, the flakes include a magnetically discontinuous layer. In a particular embodiment, deposition of nickel on a diffraction grating pattern produces magnetic needles along the grating pattern that allow magnetic alignment of the resulting diffractive pigment flakes. Color scans of test samples of magnetically aligned flakes show high differentiation between illumination parallel and perpendicular to the direction of alignment of the magnetic diffractive pigment flakes.

Abstract:
PURPOSE: Provided are a pigment mixture which has a relatively high screening property, can be satisfactorily mixed in each application system and has no or little effect on gloss and color purity, a pharmaceutical preparation containing the pigment mixture and its use for the cosmetic preparation or the finishing treatment in the food and pharmaceutical field. CONSTITUTION: The pigment mixture comprises at least two kinds of components which comprises a component A containing an effective pigment based on a glass flake, and a component B containing an organic or inorganic flake-type, needle-type, spherical or crystalline colorant or filler. Preferably the colorant of the component B is a pearly pigment, a multilayer pigment or an interference pigment, and the effective pigment of the component A is based on a glass flake having a layer with a thickness of 1 micrometer or less.

PURPOSE: Provided are a silver-colored pigment which has a very transparent snow-white body color and a wide possibility of color design, its preparation method, and a pigment composition or a dry pharmaceutical preparation containing the silver-colored pigment. CONSTITUTION: The silver-colored pigment comprises a coating which comprises TiO2 and has a thickness of 5-300 nm and a high refractive index; and an outer protective layer, and is based on a transparent flake-type substrate having a low refractive index. Preferably the transparent flake is a SiO2 flake, a Al2O3 flake, a polymer flake, a single crystal or a glass flake; and TiO2 has a rutile-modified structure. Preferably the standard deviation of average thickness of each flake is 20 % or less. The silver-coated pigment is prepared by coating a metal oxide on a substrate by the wet chemical method hydrolyzing a metal salt in an aqueous medium or the pyrolysis using a CVD or PVD process.
