Abstract: An automatic lapping and polishing machine is provided to improve polishing performance and productivity by decreasing the time for loading and unloading workpieces when lapping and polishing the workpieces and to cut down manufacturing cost by performing the loading and unloading operations automatically using a robot arm. An automatic lapping and polishing machine comprises a pair of guide rails(10), a pair of transfer tables(20), and a robot arm(30). The guide rails are installed on a stationary table(2) corresponding to a polishing wheel(1) rotated by a motor(M1), in parallel. The transfer tables are installed on the guide rail and slid by a powering unit(24) such as a servo motor and a cylinder. The transfer table includes a jig(22) placing a workpiece(A) on its upper surface. The robot arm includes a preparation die(2a) and a clamp. The preparation die is positioned at one end of the stationary table to stack a pallet(P) with the workpiece. The clamp loads and unloads the stacked workpiece on the jig at a position close to the preparation die. A receiving groove of the pallet for the workpiece is arranged in the same shape of the receiving groove(22a) of the jig.
