摘要:
An electronically controlled syringe system for connection to a balloon catheter or other balloon-type member and for automatically monitoring, displaying and recording inflation data when the syringe system is used to inflate the balloon catheter or other balloon-type member. A syringe having a barrel and a syringe plunger is selectively operable to increase fluid pressure applied to the balloon catheter or other balloon member by sliding the plunger further into the barrel. Positive pressure applied to the balloon catheter or member can be released by withdrawing the syringe plunger toward the rear of the barrel. A piezoresistive semiconductor transducer housed on the barrel of the syringe senses positive fluid pressure applied by the syringe. The electric signal output by the transducer is input to a controller where the signal is digitally processed so as to derive and record therefrom electronic data representing the magnitude of applied fluid pressure, and so as also to derive the length of time that positive fluid pressure is applied and the electronic data representing this information is automatically displayed and recorded. The controller is also programmable to permit optional selection and input of various control parameters, such as a maximum positive inflation pressure that is to be applied, maximum duration for applying positive inflation pressure, initialization of the date and time of an inflation procedure and/or retrieving and displaying inflation data previously recorded for any prior inflation of the balloon catheter or other balloon member.

A dual handled walking-assist and uprisal-assist device is disclosed having the handles spaced at a predetermined distance to provide a stable structure for rising from and lowering to a seated position, in addition to serving as a walking aid. The walking- and uprisal-assist device has a structure having a first handle or first pair of handles which are useful whenever a user is in a standing position. A second handle or second pair of handles are spaced a preselected distance from the first handle or handles and at a preselected distance from the bottom of the device. An infirmed user can use the second handle or handles as a grip to push against when the user is rising from a chair. The second handle or handles are connected to one or more load-bearing shafts and the geometrical centers of the handles are positioned relative to the load-bearing shafts to provide a stable structure when used for uprisal and walking. The load-bearing shaft or shafts of the device may be configured with height adjustment means to selectively determine the overall height of the device. The walking- and uprisal-assist device of the present invention may be manifest in either a cane or a walker.

A syringe and method for use which may be selectively operated between a freely reciprocating position and a restricted position. A triggering means configured with a trigger attached to the plunger of the syringe is employed. The triggering means includes threads located external of the plunger and corresponding threads internal of the barrel of the syringe. Upon actuation of the trigger, the threads on the plunger are retracted from their position of engagement with the threads on the barrel, thereby placing the syringe in position for free sliding movement of the plunger with respect to the barrel. The trigger is biased to the engaged position so that if the trigger is released, the threads on the plunger return to their position of engagement with the threads on the barrel. In the restricted position, the plunger may be screwed into or out of the barrel by rotating the plunger, enabling the operator of the syringe to maintain strict control over the amount of pressure in the syringe. The triggering means employs a plurality of ramp and channel configurations which are disposed at approximately the same angel as the threads on the plunger and barrel which direct the retraction of the threads on the plunger from engagement to disengagement with the threads on the barrel.

A syringe and method for use which may be selectively operated between a free position and a locked position. A triggering device configured with a trigger attached to the plunger of the syringe is employed. The triggering device includes a set of threads located on the plunger and a corresponding set of threads on the barrel of the syringe. Upon actuation of the trigger, the threads on the plunger are retracted from their position of engagement with the threads on the barrel, thereby placing the syringe in position for free movement of the plunger with respect to the barrel. The threads are biased in the engaged position. Thus, when the trigger is released, the threads on the plunger return to their position of engagement with the threads on the barrel. In the locked position, the plunger may be screwed into or out of the barrel by rotating the plunger, enabling the operator of the syringe to maintain strict control over the amount of pressure in the syringe. The triggering device employs a plurality of ramp and channel configurations which are disposed at approximately the same angle as the threads on the plunger and barrel. Thus, upon actuation of the triggering device, no net force results on the plunger which would cause movement of the plunger with respect to the barrel.
