If it is determined that the authentication portion on the image forming apparatus side can authenticate the user authentication information input on the information processing apparatus side, transmission of image data from the information processing apparatus to the image forming apparatus is controlled.

An image forming apparatus has a configuration in which a plurality of subsystems, each having a specific function, are interchangeably connected to a base platform. Each of the subsystems includes a plurality of units having a variety of different performances. A control unit is capable of control each of the subsystems so that the image forming apparatus flexibly provides functions that are tailored to individual users' requirements.

Image data is stored into an image memory, then an image processing unit performs image processing on the image data stored in the image memory and generates information on a predicted amount of developer consumed in image formation, based on the image data resulted from the image processing. A printer forms an image by using the developer based on the processed image data, thereafter, the developer is supplied in correspondence with the information on the predicted consumption amount of the developer. Thus, primary image processing functions can be integrated on an image processing board, and the developer consumption amount can be predicted by the image processing board based on the image data.

The apparatus is provided with a detecting unit for detecting positional information of an original image, and a discriminating unit for extracting the pattern data of a certain part of the original image and discriminating whether the original image is the predetermined image, based on the similarity between the pattern data and the predetermined pattern.
