Abstract: Process for dyeing and printing textile material with vat or sulfur dyes using reductones or reductonates at pH about 12 or more in the presence of a quinoid compound which is soluble in water in the said pH range, and dye formulations which contain reductones or reductonates as reducing agents. The reducing agents are resistant to atmospheric oxygen and do not cause any overreduction in the case of sensitive dyes.
