摘要： The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for mitigating the effects of polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in high speed optical signal transmission systems. The apparatus comprises a concatenation of birefringent elements (11, 12, 16) of which at least two (11, 12) can be selectively controlled by means of a feedback device (15), and is capable of mitigating the effects of first- and second-order PMD even through the architecture used features a limited number of control connections (11a, 12a9 and corresponding control signals.

摘要： A polarisation control method includes the steps of feeding an optical input signal to a first polarisation transformation block for providing a corresponding first optical output signal; feeding the first optical output signal to a second for providing a corresponding second output signal; providing to the blocks, regulating signals which are variable within limited time intervals and adapted to induce the blocks to assume a configuration wherein the second block is in an active state and the first block is in a reset state in order to carry out a rewind operation wherein the corresponding regulating signal is induced to assume a value within the corresponding limited interval.

摘要： A method for preventing a temporary traffic interruption between two client ports and the consequent state transition of the receiving port in a communication network providing for the transmission of a data stream between two clients along at least one path when a fault condition is detected in the path. The method includes the steps of monitoring the data stream directed to the receiver and, upon detecting in the data stream an error sequence capable of starting the state transition, replacing the data stream with a filling data stream to prevent the receiver from detecting an error condition, and resuming the forwarding of the received data stream after a predetermined time interval. An apparatus able to mask to the receiver for the predetermined time interval, a storage area network and a computer program product are also disclosed.
