Abstract: Catalyst systems useful in ring-opening polymerization of β-butyrolactone to produce syndiotactic PHB are provided. The catalyst systems include a ligand of the structural Formula I, Formula II, or Formula III and a Group 3 metal or metal precursor such as yttrium. The present catalyst systems are useful in adjusting syndiotacticity and thereby lowering the Tm of PHB for use in commercial applications.
