    Abstract: A method and apparatus for night lapse video capture are disclosed. The apparatus includes an image sensor, an image processor, and a video encoder. The image sensor is configured to capture image data. The image data includes a first image that is temporally precedent to a second image. The image processor is configured to determine a motion estimation. The motion estimation is based on a comparison of a portion of the first image and a portion of the second image. The image processor is configured to subtract a mask from the second image to obtain a denoised image. The mask is based on the motion estimation. The video encoder is configured to receive the denoised image from the image processor. The video encoder is configured to encode the denoised image in a video format. The video encoder is configured to output a video file in the video format.

    Abstract: A method for a zero shutter-lag (ZSL) mode of an image capture device includes, in response to detecting a first event indicative of the ZSL mode, setting the image capture device to the ZSL mode. Setting the image capture device to the ZSL mode includes setting a sensor of the image capture device to a first resolution that is higher than a second resolution of a non-ZSL mode, and setting a timer to expire after a predefined period. The method also includes, in response to the timer expiring after the predefined period, setting the image capture device to the non-ZSL mode. The non-ZSL mode cancels the ZSL mode.

    Abstract: Systems, apparatus, and methods for selectively parsing a live stream for a connected device. GoPro® cameras capture 2 video streams for every recording: a main resolution video (MRV) and a frame aligned low-resolution video (LRV). Currently, the LRV is streamed to other devices for playback in real-time. Unfortunately, not all devices in the mobile ecosystem can keep up with these transfer and playback speeds of the LRV; thus, exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure pick frames from the LRV to provide an IDR-only version that can be replayed with minimal processing burden. As a related issue, operating codecs in parallel at different resolutions can result in misaligned frame structures since each codec independently determines its “group of pictures” (GOP), etc. The described techniques define a frame correspondence that can also be used to improve post-processing at best effort.

    Abstract: Processing of a burst of high dynamic range (HDR) images in a timely manner is described. The method includes receiving successive multi-exposure image sets from an image sensor, where a multi-exposure image set includes a short exposure image and long exposure image pair. The multiple short exposure image and long exposure image pairs in the successive multi-exposure image sets are processed via an image signal processor pipeline which includes Bayer noise reduction. The multiple short exposure image and long exposure image pairs are combined, using a HDR hardware component, to generate multiple HDR images, which are processed through local tone mapping and chroma noise reduction offline processing. General Purpose Raw (GPR) format images are generated for the multiple short exposure image and long exposure image pairs and stored for post-processing access.
