    Abstract: In an example, a method comprises fabricating a first validation device for association with a first replaceable print apparatus component. The device may be to form part of circuitry arranged on the first replaceable print apparatus component, and may provide an associated electrically detectable characteristic which varies with the position of at least part of the first validation device. The electrically detectable characteristic may be measured and data indicative of the characteristic may be stored in a first memory. The first replaceable print apparatus component comprising the first device and the first memory may be assembled.

    Abstract: Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture to control operation of a printer based on whether a marker is detected in a pigment ink are disclosed. Example apparatus include an optical sensor to detect a marker in a vehicle component of the pigment ink. The vehicle is depleted of a pigment component. The apparatus also includes a controller to control operation of the printer based on whether the marker is detected. The apparatus can also include an authorizer to determine whether the printer in which the pigment ink is installed is authorized to use the pigment ink having the marker. The controller of the apparatus is to control operation of the printer by transmitting a control signal to a print head processor to halt printing operations. The apparatus can additionally include a filter to deplete the vehicle component of the pigment component.

    Abstract: An example system includes a secure processing engine. The secure processing engine is to store a host key. The system also includes an integrated circuit in a single package. The integrated circuit includes a firmware engine to execute firmware instructions. The integrated circuit also includes a one-time-programmable (OTP) memory unreadable by the firmware engine. The OTP memory is to store the host key. The integrated circuit also includes a security engine. The security engine is to encrypt and decrypt communications between the firmware engine and the secure processing engine based on the host key.
