Abstract: A sheath for a surgical instrument may include a sleeve having a distal end and proximal end, and a retention mechanism at a proximal end portion of the sleeve. The retention mechanism may comprise a sleeve attachment portion configured to be attached to the sleeve at the proximal end portion, and a locking collar extending from the sleeve attachment portion, wherein the locking collar is configured to receive a connector portion of a surgical instrument. The locking collar further may include a locking feature movable between a first configuration, in which the sheath is moveable relative to the surgical instrument, and a second configuration, in which the locking feature is configured to engage with the connector portion to retain the sheath in position on the surgical instrument.

Abstract: In accordance with an exemplary embodiment, a surgical instrument comprises a shaft and an actuation member extending through a bore of the shaft and operably coupled to an end effector. A sleeve is disposed around the actuation member and within the bore of the shaft. A flux conduit configured to transmit a surgical flux to the end effector is at least partially received within a negative feature of the sleeve. In accordance with another exemplary embodiment, a surgical instrument comprises a shaft, a wrist mechanism coupling an end effector to the shaft, and an actuation member operably coupled to the end effector. A sleeve surrounds the actuation member and has a straight passage. A flux conduit operably coupled to the end effector is received within the straight passage. A portion of the flux conduit is slack in a region of the shaft through which the sleeve does not extend.

Abstract: In accordance with at least one exemplary embodiment, a surgical instrument comprises a shaft comprising a distal end, a proximal end, and a wall extending from the distal end to the proximal end, the wall surrounding an interior of the shaft. A transmission housing is located at the proximal end of the shaft and the shaft is rotatably coupled to the transmission housing. An actuator in the transmission housing is operably coupled to actuate rotation of the shaft. A port in the transmission housing is configured to be fluidically coupled to a fluid supply. A manifold in the transmission housing comprises an inlet and an outlet, the inlet being in fluid communication with the port, the outlet being in fluid communication with the interior of the shaft at the proximal end of the shaft. The fluid communication of the inlet with the port and the fluid communication of the outlet with the interior of the shaft are maintained through a range of rotational orientations of the shaft relative to the transmission housing.

Abstract: A surgical instrument includes a reusable instrument portion and a disposable tip assembly. The disposable tip assembly includes an end effector assembly that in turn includes an end effector. The disposable tip assembly also includes a locking tip cover that locks the disposable tip assembly to a lock interface element of a tip interface of the reusable instrument portion. To facilitate mounting the disposable tip assembly on the tip interface of the reusable instrument portion, the disposable tip assembly includes a first quick connect/disconnect element and the tip interface includes a second quick connect/disconnect element. The second quick connect/disconnect element is coupled to a tendon. The tendon is also coupled to an actuator assembly that provides forces that push and pull (push/pull) the tendon.
