Abstract: A handle and latch assembly for a door having a thumbpiece actuating a retractable latchbolt from engagement with a strike. A generally upright handle is mounted on the door with the thumbpiece having a single actuating shank behind the upper end of the handle and a divided or bifurcated thumb-engaging portion extending around and outwardly of the upright handle with the bifurcation allowing movement of the thumbpiece relative to the handle.
