    Abstract: Hair coloring compositions that form a transparent microemulsion and have a desirable texture. The hair coloring compositions may include about 0.1 to about 10 wt. % of one or more oxidative dye precursors; about 0.1 to about 15 wt. % of one or more anionic surfactants chosen from acyl amino acid surfactants; about 0.1 to about 15 wt. % of one or more amphoteric surfactants; about 0.1 to about 30 wt. % of a plurality of nonionic surfactants; and water. The plurality of nonionic surfactants include about 0.1 to about 15 wt. % of one or more alkyl polyglucosides; about 0.1 to about 15 wt. % of a sorbitan compound, a derivative thereof, or a mixture thereof; and about 0.1 to about 10 wt. % of one or more polyol esters.

Such compositions may further comprise a hair colorant compound comprising an oxidation dye, and are suitable as a hair color-altering composition.
