Abstract: 1,093,652. Stop-motion. LEESONA CORPORATION. March 15, 1965 [May 12, 1964], No. 10813/65. Heading D1D. In a machine for twisting and winding yarn comprising a supply spindle having a whorl engageable with drive means to rotate the spindle and twist the yarn, and drum-winding means having a package on a pivoted arm, there is a stop-motion actuated on failure of the yarn to pivot the arm to move the winding package off the drum and to move the whorl out of engagement with the drive-means into engagement with a brake to stop the twisting-spindles, and a yarn-catching member to prevent yarn 'being fed off the supply spindle when the stop motion is operated. When a yarn breaks, a feeler 42, Fig. 1, is rotated by a counterweight 52 to rotate a lever 46 fast with the feeler into the path of a member 56 which is constantly rocked by an arm 62. The lever is consequently raised and lifts the package arm 24 to raise the package off the driving-drum. At the same time, a spring-urged lever 32 pivoted to arm 24 at 34 is moved to engage a catch 32b with a detent 36a to hold the package-arm in raised position. So that the lever 46 is moved out of the path of the rocking-member 56, a finger 68 is provided which engages a member 66 fast with lever 46, when the lever is raised. The yarn is drawn from a package on a holder 70, with a protective cover 75, through a hole 76 in a rotor 78 driven by a whorl 88 to impact two twists to the yarn. The whorl and its associated spindle are carried by an arm 96 which pivots about a point 100 when a bell-crank 108 is rocked by a rod 118. This rod is connected to an arm 24 to be raised thereby when the package is lifted, while a lost-motion device 119 prevents the bell-crank being rocked as the arm 24 moves during the normal winding- operation. When the arm 96 pivots, the whorl is moved away from the driving-belt 90 into engagement with a fixed brake 124, Fig. 2; at the same time, the rotor 78 moves into contact with a pad 136 which traps yarn moving out of the hole 76. The brake 124 is carried on a resilient arm 121 which enables the brake to aline itself with the rotor. This arm and an arm 132 which supports the pad 136 are backed by stabilizers 128 and 130 respectively which ensure firm contact between the brake and whorl and the pad and rotor.
