Abstract: The present invention relates to a display device for providing improved dynamic tone mapping, the device comprising: a control unit for performing tone mapping to adjust a luminance of an input image by using a tone curve; and a display unit for displaying an image, the luminance of which has been adjusted by tone mapping, wherein the control unit may calculate a threshold value for separation of an object and a background in the input image, and may change the tone curve on the basis of the threshold value.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an image display apparatus. The image display apparatus includes: a display; and a controller configured to control the display, wherein the controller detects a first peak area corresponding to a luminance value greater than or equal to a first reference value, and a second peak area corresponding to a luminance value between the first reference value and a second reference value less than the first reference value, in response to the number of pixels in the second peak area being less than or equal to a predetermined number, the controller performs first tone mapping based on the first peak area, the controller performs second tone mapping based on the first peak are and the second peak area, wherein a luminance value of the second peak area during the second tone mapping is greater than a luminance value of the second peak area during the first tone mapping. Accordingly, luminance and contrast during displaying image may be improved.

Abstract: Disclosed is an image display apparatus. The image display apparatus includes: a display; an illumination sensor configured to sense ambient illumination of the display; and a signal processing unit configured to output an image-quality-processed image signal to the display, wherein the signal processing unit is configured to, based on information on the illumination sensed by the illumination sensor, convert gray level of an input image according to a first gray level conversion mode or according to a second gray level conversion mode in which an amount of increase in gray level is greater than in the first gray level conversion mode. Accordingly, it is possible to improve gray level expression of a displayed image in response to ambient illumination of the display.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an image display apparatus. The image display apparatus includes: a display including an organic light emitting diode panel (OLED panel); and a controller configured to control the display, wherein the controller calculates an Average Picture Level (APL) of an input image, and in response to the calculated APL being greater than or equal to a first reference value in a high-dynamic range (HDR) mode, the controller decreases the APL and perform luminance conversion based on the decreased APL, and in response to the calculated APL being greater than or equal to the first reference value in a normal mode rather than the HDR mode, the controller performs luminance conversion based on the calculated APL. Accordingly, luminance representation may be improved during displaying image.
