    Abstract: Inductively coupled shelving units and storage containers with integrated primary coils, as well as inductively coupled systems for storing and charging tools, are provided. Power is inductively coupled from a primary coil to a device containing a secondary coil. Primary coils may be integrated into a shelving unit to charge devices stored on the shelving unit. Primary coils may similarly be integrated into a storage container. Inductively coupled shelving units may also be configured to receive and hold an inductively coupled storage container such as a toolbox. An integrated secondary coil in the toolbox receives power inductively coupled from a primary coil in a shelving unit. Integrated primary coils in the toolbox then inductively couple the received power to secondary coils in individual devices. Integrated primary coils may provide varying amounts of power.

    Abstract: Inductively coupled consoles and vehicle consoles with integrated primary coils, and apparatuses for charging, supporting, and securing portable computers with integrated primary coils are provided. Power is inductively coupled from a primary coil to a device containing a secondary coil, such as a PDA, cellular phone, rechargeable flashlight, remote control, power tool, or laptop computer. Primary coils may be integrated into consoles to charge devices containing secondary coils placed in the consoles. Primary coils may similarly be integrated into vehicle consoles. Inductively coupled consoles may be configured to receive and hold devices containing secondary coils. Primary coils may also be integrated into an apparatus for charging, supporting, and securing a portable computer. Integrated primary coils may provide varying amounts of power.

    Abstract: Inductively coupled work surfaces with integrated primary coils are provided. Power is inductively coupled from a work surface with an integrated primary coil to a handheld device containing a secondary coil. The inductively coupled work surface may be a home work surface, an ergonomic industrial work bench, a work surface installed in the interior of a vehicle, or a collapsible work surface accessible from the exterior of a vehicle. Primary coils integrated into a work surface may provide varying amounts of power. Devices containing secondary coils, such as laptop computers, PDAs, cell phones, and power tools, are charged when placed on the work surface where primary coils are integrated.

The synchrotilt chair mechanism is for use on a chair that has a base assembly with an extending pedestal, a seat, and a back. The synchrotilt mechanism includes a chassis that is coupled to the pedestal and a seat plate that is coupled to the chassis and to the chair seat. The seat plate slides relative to the chassis. The synchrotilt mechanism further includes a multipurpose adjustment mechanism that can adjust both the height of the chair as well as the orientation of the seat with respect to the chassis. The multipurpose adjustment mechanism may also lock the seat plate with respect to the chassis, such that the seat will not move when the user reclines the chair.

    Abstract: A synchrotilt chair mechanism and a chair are provided. The synchrotilt chair mechanism is for use on a chair that has a base assembly with an extending pedestal, a seat and a back. The mechanism includes a chassis that is coupled to the pedestal and a seat plate that is coupled to the chassis and to the chair seat. The seat plate can slide relative to the chassis. The mechanism further includes a back support bar that is coupled on one end to the chassis. The support bar extends upwardly from the chassis. A pair of arm supports are further included that can be coupled to the chair. Each arm support extends upwardly adjacent one side of the chair seat. The mechanism further includes a back bracket having a pair of ends that extend adjacent a side of the chair. Each end is pivotally coupled to the adjacent arm support. The back bracket further includes a guide plate that mounts to the chair back and that has at least one guide slot. The guide slot slidably and pivotally couples the back bracket to the other end of the back support bar. During recline of the chair, the back bracket pivots about the pivot connection on each arm support and the guide plate guides the lower chair back downwardly and forwardly. In addition, during recline the chair seat slides forwardly on the chassis.

    Abstract: A retractable work surface for a chair is provided for a chair that has a pair of arms. The work surface has a removable plate that can be coupled to one of the chair arms or the other. An L-shaped rod is coupled on one end to the plate so that is can rotate with respect to the plate. The other end of the rod has a bracket on one side and a tray on the other side. The bracket and tray can rotate as a unit with respect to the rod. The work surface is easily moved from one arm to the other by removing the plate from one arm and moving it to the other, and by reversing the rod and bracket. The work surface can also easily be retrofit to existing chairs by simply mounting the plate to one of the chair arms.

    Abstract: This invention provides a spring assembly for use in a chair tilt control mechanism. The tilt control mechanism is one that can recline and return a backrest for a chair. The spring assembly includes a cylindrical block that has first and second ends and a central bore. A pair of end caps located at each of the first and second ends of the block. Each end cap has a receiving section that can rotate within the central bore of the block. Each end cap also has a hole extending through it that provides a coupling point for the chair backrest. The spring assembly also includes at least one steel coil spring around the block. The spring has one terminal end coupled to the tilt control mechanism and the other end coupled to one of the end caps. The end caps rotate within the block as the chair backrest is reclined or returned. The forced needed to rotate the end caps is a sum of the spring force provided by the spring and the frictional relationship between the block and the end caps.
