An object of the present invention is to provide a scroll compressor which can improve the decrease in the compression ratio due to the leakage of compressed gas via a tip clearance between adjacent compression chambers, which can be assembled with fewer processes, and which can be manufactured at a low cost. In order to achieve the object, the present invention provides: a scroll compressor comprising a fixed scroll member which is fixed in position and has a spiral wall body provided on one surface of an end plate; an orbiting scroll member which has a spiral wall body provided on one surface of an end plate, being supported by engaging the spiral wall bodies so as to orbit and revolve around the fixed scroll member without rotation; the spiral wall bodies of the fixed scroll member and the orbiting scroll member each comprise a step portion which divides a top edge of the spiral wall body into plural parts forming a low top edge at the center and a high top edge at the outer end of the spiral wall body; and the end plates of the fixed scroll member and the orbiting scroll member each comprise a step portion which divides the end plate into a high part at the center and a low part at the outer end of the end plate; wherein at least one of a clearance between the high part of the end plate of the fixed scroll member and the low top edge of the spiral wall body of the orbiting scroll member, and a clearance between the high part of the end plate of the orbiting scroll member and the low top edge of the spiral wall body of the fixed scroll member is a fixed value.

A scroll compressor having a simple structure is disclosed, which effectively decreases the thrust load imposed on the revolving scroll without degrading the compression efficiency. The scroll compressor comprises a casing; a fixed scroll provided in the housing and comprising an end plate and a spiral protrusion built on one face of the end plate; and a revolving scroll provided in the casing and comprising an end plate and a spiral protrusion built on one face of the end plate, wherein the spiral protrusions of each scroll are engaged with each other so as to form a spiral compression chamber. In the above structure, an introduced working gas is compressed in the compression chamber and then discharged according to the revolution of the revolving scroll; a thrust member for thrust-supporting the end plate of the revolving scroll is provided at the back-face side of the end plate of the revolving scroll; a pressure pocket is formed in a face of one of the thrust member and the end plate of the revolving scroll, wherein said face faces the other of the thrust member and the end plate of the revolving scroll; and a high-pressure introduction hole for introducing a high-pressure fluid into the pressure pocket is provided at one of the thrust member side and the revolving scroll side.

A scroll compressor for reducing fluid leakage at step portions of scroll members and improving the compression efficiency is disclosed. The reduction of leakage and a high compression efficiency can be realized without increasing the precision in the manufacture of the members. Between the engaged scroll members, a high-pressure space is formed close to the spiral center, and among points at which the spiral walls contact with each other immediately before the innermost closed space communicates with the high-pressure space, the innermost point is defined as a base point. The angular distance from the base point to the outer end of the spiral, measured along the inner-peripheral face of the spiral wall, is approximately 4null rad. The angular distance from the base point to the step portion of each end plate, measured along the inner-peripheral face of the spiral wall, is equal to or more than approximately 3null rad.
