Abstract: Systems and methods to provide an interactive space over an expanded field-of-view with focal distance tuning are presented herein. The system may include one or more of a headset, a first image forming component, a second image forming component, a set of tuning components, one or more physical processors, and/or other components. The first image forming component may be configured to generate light rays to form a first set of images presented over a first angular portion of a user's field-of-view. The second image forming component may be configured to generate light rays to form a second set of images of virtual content presented over a second angular portion of the user's field-of-view. A vergence distance of a gaze of a user may be determined. A focal distance of the images may be adjusted to match the vergence distance.

Abstract: A system to provide views of virtual content in an interactive space, e.g., an augmented reality environment, may comprise one or more of a light source, directional control device, variable power lens, beam steering device, optical element, and/or one or more physical processors. A light source may generate collimated light rays in accordance with virtual content to be perceived within a three-dimensional light field. A directional control device may controllable adjust direction of travel of collimated light rays toward a beam steering device. A variable power lens may be positioned to receive collimated light rays between a light source and a directional control device. A beam steering device may be configured to direct collimated light rays to locations on an optical element. An optical element may be configured to reflect collimated light rays in a focal plane of a perceived three-dimensional light field.

Abstract: Systems and methods of image projection are presented herein. Image projection may be facilitated by a layered waveguide and/or other components. The layered waveguide may have an input portion and a presentation portion. Light may be received from a display at the input portion and output at the presentation portion. Th input portion may include coupling optical features. The presentation portion ma include presentation optical features forming Bragg diffraction gratings. Relative proportions of light emitted by the display and coupled onto the layers may be controlled adjust a cumulative focal length of the layered waveguide.

Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods to provide privacy protection and brightness enhancement in an interactive environment. A system may include one or more of a headset, one or more light sources, one or more optical elements, one or more physical processor, and/or other components. A light source may be configured to generate linearly polarized light rays polarized on a first polarization plane along an axis of propagation. A reflective polarizer of an optical element may be configured to transmit light rays polarized on a second polarization plane transverse to the first polarization plane. Light rays polarized along the first polarization plane may be reflected off the reflective polarizer. An absorptive polarizer of an optical element may transmit light rays polarized on the second polarization plane so that light rays polarized along the second polarization plane may be transmitted through both the absorptive polarizer and the reflective polarizer.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosed apparatuses, methods and systems provide a wearable, augmented or virtual reality display system including two or more sets of backlight illumination arrangements. Each different set of backlight illumination is directed to a corresponding optical imaging system. The corresponding optical imaging system is designed to focus each set of illumination at a different distance. The selection of a particular optical focal distance is controlled by selecting the set of backlight illumination corresponding to the imaging system to provide the desired focal distance. As a result, selection of the backlight illumination determines at which distance an image is perceived by a user. When multiple backlight illumination sets are multiplexed with 2-D images, a single, 3-D image is perceived by the wearer of the display system.
