摘要:
Methods and apparatus for communicating between an access terminal (AT) and an Access Point (AP) are described. For communications over the air link, between an AP and an AT a PN (Pseudo-random Noise) code based address is used as an AP identifier, e.g., address. The PN code based address may be based on Pilot PN code based signals received from an AP. Thus, the PN based AP address may be determined from pilot signals received from an AP. The PN based AP address may be a shortened version of a PN code corresponding to an AP, a full PN code corresponding to an AP, or a value which can be derived in a known manner from a PN code corresponding to an AP.

Methods and apparatus related to management of active connections between an access terminal and access points are described. An access terminal maintains and manages active set information. The active set information identifies a set of access points with which the access terminal has an active connection. In some embodiments, the active set information includes allocated resources assigned to the access terminal corresponding to the different access points in the active set. Layer 2 Transport Tunneling is used, in various embodiments, to communicate connection request and/or connection response information, between access points. In some embodiments, the access terminal optionally assists in coordinating MAC resources allocated to the access terminal by different access points.

Addressing methods and apparatus which use airlink resources in an efficient manner are described. In order to use airlink resources efficiently, a variety of address types are supported. The number of bits in the address may vary depending on the type. In order to support a variety of different address types, of different lengths, in one embodiment, an address used for communications over an airlink is constructed by including in the address an address type field used to communicate an address type indicator and, optionally, an address field used to communicate an address value. The address field is variable in length and may be null, requiring the communication of no bits in this field, for certain types of addresses. Four types of addresses which may be supported include: i) an Access Terminal assisted address, ii) a Network assisted address, 3) a Pilot PN based address; and 4) a reserved address.

Methods and apparatus for communicating between an access terminal (AT) and remote device via an access point (AP) are described. For communications over the air link, between an AP and an AT, a short address corresponding to the remote device is used for routing packets to/from the remote device. This conserves air link resources. However, for communicating between the AP and the remote device a longer address, e.g., a full IP address corresponding to the remote device, is used. The AT converts between the long and short addresses as information, e.g., packets, is communicated between the remote device and the AT. The long address may be, for example, an IP address corresponding to the remote device used to route packets through a Layer 2 tunnel between the remote device and the AP. In some embodiments the remote device is a remote access point.

Methods and apparatus for communicating between an access terminal (AT) and a device serving the AT by way of an Access Point (AP) are described. In accordance with one feature serving devices may be assigned specific addresses which are interpreted based on the source of the communication, e.g., MAC packet, in which the address is used. Such addresses may be interpreted as being of a different type than other addresses which can be interpreted and/or used without taking into account the identity of the sender. In some embodiments Session Controllers and/or Internet Attachment Points (IAPs) are identified with such addresses. The address value is the same for one or more ATs but is interpreted at an AP receiving such the IAP address based on information corresponding to the AT which sent the packet including the IAP or Session Controller address.

A network function is configured to maintain a copy of a session state for an access terminal. The network function is further configured to query a session master to determine whether the session state has changed. The session master is configured to generate a response to the query that enables the network function to update the copy of the session state if the session state has changed. The access terminal may be configured to change the session state at a first network function and send a message to a second network function to indicate that the session state has been changed.

Methods and apparatus for tunneling packets between remote and serving Access points for delivery to an access terminal (AT) are described. Methods and apparatus for communicating control values and/or information in addition to information to be delivered to an AT over an airlink are also described. An AT uses the received control information to recover communicated packets. Some features support the use of various headers and/or indicators in the headers, e.g., RLP and/or Packet Correlation Protocol (PCP) headers, which may be used to control routing of communicated payloads to an RLP processing module corresponding to an AP which was the source of the communicated payload.
