Abstract: Power consumption can be reduced by preventing a memory image from being destaged to a nonvolatile memory device. For example, a system can determine, subsequent to a computing device being in a first power mode and having a memory image stored in a first nonvolatile memory device that performs a caching function, that the computing device is in a second power mode that is a higher power mode than the first power mode. The system can, in response to determining that the computing device is in the second power mode, generate a first command to store the memory image in a volatile memory device and prevent the memory image from being stored in a second nonvolatile memory device. The system can, in response to generating the first command, store the memory image in the volatile memory device.

Abstract: Replicas of content can be managed in storage systems. In one example, a storage system can determine an amount of load on the storage system based on values for performance metrics indicating a performance of the storage system. Next, the storage system can determine that the storage system is to have a target number of replicas of content based on the amount of load on the storage system. The storage system can then adjust itself to have the target number of replicas of the content.

Abstract: Power consumption can be reduced by using a different memory chip for background processing. For example, a computing device can determine that a first application executing on a device complies with an application programming interface (API) for using a smaller dynamic access memory (DRAM) chip of the device that is smaller and consumes less power than a main DRAM chip of the device. The computing device can determine the device is inactive. The computing device can perform, by the API, background processing for the first application using the memory chip.
