Abstract: A liquid crystal display includes a first polarizing plate that includes a plurality of first areas to polarize a light and a second area disposed between the first areas to block the light, a pixel layer that includes a plurality of pixels and receives a first polarized light, a liquid crystal layer driven by the plurality of pixels and rotating a polarizing axis of the first polarized light to convert the first polarized light to a second polarized light having a polarizing axis substantially vertical to the polarizing axis of the first polarized light, and a second polarizing plate that transmits the second polarized light.
