Abstract: A data transmission method and apparatus for a mobile terminal are provided. The method enables the mobile terminal to share screen data with an external device through Wi-Fi Direct. The method includes establishing an RTP session using a first transport protocol by sending an RTSP setup message to the external device, and transmitting screen data as RTP packets to the external device through the first transport protocol, monitoring RTP packets to determine whether to conduct RTP transport switching to the external device, sending, upon determining to conduct RTP transport switching, an RTSP request message for RTP transport switching to the external device, and transmitting screen data as RTP packets to the external device through a second transport protocol. The external device may also request and conduct RTP transport switching using a desired transport protocol through RTSP.
