Abstract: A method and system for dynamically controlling coverage measurement in a system in which a UE is served concurrently on at least two air-interface connections including a first air-interface connection with a first access node and a second air-interface connection with a second access node and in which the UE applies a dynamic power sharing to control uplink transmit power of the UE respectively on each connection. In an example method, the UE's power headroom on the first connection is determined and is used as a basis to control a handover measurement threshold to be applied by the UE for evaluation of coverage strength for the second connection.

Abstract: Dynamic reconfiguring of dual-connectivity service of a UE includes detecting that quality of the UE's second air-interface connection with a second access node is threshold poor and responsively reconfiguring the dual-connectivity service from (i) a first mode in which user plane communication of the dual-connectivity service is downlink on both the first and second air-interface connections and is uplink on the second air-interface connection but not on the first air-interface connection to (ii) a second mode in which the user-plane communication of the dual-connectivity service is downlink on both the first and second air-interface connections and is uplink on the first air-interface connection but not on the second air-interface connection.

Abstract: A mechanism for controlling operation of a first access node that supports operation according to a first radio access technology (RAT) but does not support dual-connectivity operation according to the first RAT and a second RAT. A system detects a high extent of occurrences of dual-connectivity-capable user equipment devices (UEs) being connected with the first access node when the dual-connectivity-capable UEs could instead connect with a second access node that supports the dual-connectivity operation. And in response, the first access node blocks dual-connectivity-capable UEs from being connected with the first access node while allowing UEs that are not dual-connectivity capable to be connected with the first access node.

Abstract: When a first radio of a UE has an air-interface connection with an access node on a first carrier and the UE encounters a trigger for the UE to scan for and report to the access node coverage on a second carrier, a second radio of the UE, rather than the first radio of the UE, will conduct the scanning, and the first radio of the UE will then report to access node over the air-interface connection on the first carrier a result of the scanning conducted by the second radio. Optimally, the first radio of the UE thus need not tune away from its air-interface connection with the access node in order for the UE to scan for target coverage on the second carrier. And the process could thereby help avoid the interruption of communication between the UE and the access node on the air-interface connection over the first carrier.

Abstract: A method and system for dynamically controlling connectivity of a user equipment device (UE) when the UE has standalone connectivity with a first access node under a first radio access technology (RAT). An example method includes the UE detecting that the UE is within threshold strong coverage of a second access node under a second RAT, and the UE making a selection between (i) responsively handing over from the first access node to the second access node and (ii) having dual-connectivity with the first access node and the second access node. Further, the example method includes the UE informing the first access node of the UE's selection, perhaps together with an inter-RAT measurement report reporting that the UE is within threshold strong coverage of the second access node, and the first access node responsively taking action in accordance with the UE's selection.
