The apparatus comprises a plurality of elements assembled together to form a ring structure oriented in a plane around a longitudinal axis. The ring structure defines a first engagement surface. A structure defining a second engagement surface is rotatable with respect to the ring structure. The ring structure is operable to be moved between a collapsed condition and an expanded condition by movement of the plurality of elements, and movement between the collapsed condition and the expanded condition engages or disengages the first and second engagement surfaces. The apparatus can be configured to transfer a driving torque (e.g. a clutch) or a braking force (e.g. a torque brake).

    摘要: A hydraulic transformer clutch employs radial hydraulic piston assemblies with integrated electrohydraulic actuation. The hydraulic transformer clutch includes: an output shaft, an output disc affixed to the output shaft for rotation therewith, an input shaft, a rotatable housing affixed to one of the input shaft or the output shaft for rotation therewith, a plurality of hydraulic cylinders, and a plurality of working pistons. The hydraulic cylinders are operatively connected to the rotatable housing, and are spaced about the rotatable housing. Each working piston is slidably mounted within a corresponding hydraulic cylinder of the plurality of hydraulic cylinders, and is positioned to be selectively pushed, when actuated, to create a rigid connection between the input shaft and the output shaft. One or more actuator pistons are pushed by an electromagnet and create pressure that is distributed on working piston surfaces and generates active torque.

A plurality of arcuate segments collectively define a ring that has a first edge disposed on the tapered surface and a second edge disposed in the groove. Each of the segments defines a first locating feature. An annular resilient member is seated on each of the segments and includes second locating features each connecting with one of the first locating features to secure the segments in a desired circumferential position relative to each other.

    摘要: A clutch includes a carrier defining an annular groove and a hub coaxial with the carrier and defining an outer surface. The hub is axially movable relative to the carrier between at least a first position and a second position. A wedge disk has a first edge disposed on the outer surface, a second edge disposed in the annular groove, and a face extending between the edges and defining an annular shoulder. The disk engages between the carrier and the hub when the hub is in the first position to lock the clutch, and the carrier and the hub are rotatable relative to each other when the hub is in the second position. An annular retainer is configured to prevent radial expansion of the disk when the hub is in the second position and to permit radial expansion of the disk when the hub is in the first position.
