摘要: An ion exchange membrane for use in sensors which measure dissolved gases. Disclosed is a method for using ion exchangers in gas permeable membranes to maintain optimal conditions in the electrolyte contained within the sensor. This can greatly extend the lifetime and improve the stability relative to sensors of similar size and electrolyte volume that have been constructed using prior art.

摘要: An electrochemical sensor with a gelled membrane for prolonging the useful life of an ion-selective electrode. The gelled membrane is a hydrophilic membrane having a specially-formulated gel layer coated on one side. The gel-coated side of the gelled membrane is in intimate contact with the ion-selective membrane and separates the ion-selective membrane from the test samples and the calibration and cleaning fluids. The gelled membrane is a semi-permeable barrier which allows passage of the species to be measured while inhibiting the passage of surfactant and proteinaceous material into the polymeric ion-selective membrane.

摘要: A flowing junction reference electrode exhibiting heretofore unattainable potentiometric characteristics is described, comprising a microfluidic liquid junction member that is situated between a reference electrolyte solution and a sample solution. This microfluidic liquid junction member has an array of nanochannels spanning the member and physically connecting the reference electrolyte solution and a sample solution, but while the electrolyte solution flows through the array of nanochannels and into the sample solution at a linear velocity, the sample solution does not substantially enter the array of nanochannels via the mechanisms of diffusion, migration, convection or other known mechanisms. The number of nanochannels in the array is preferably between approximately 108 and approximately 100. Also preferably, the nanochannels are substantially straight and are substantially parallel to one another; such an array of nanochannels is herein described as anisotropic. The nanochannels are also preferably coated. The widths of any nanochannels in the array of nanochannels are preferably uniform, in that the width of any nanochannel is substantially equal to the width of any other nanochannels in the array. The nanochannels preferably have widths of greater than approximately 1 nanometer and less than approximately 500 nanometers, and most preferably of 70 nanometers. The electrode may be constructed out of any suitable material, and is preferably is constructed of a polymer, most preferably a polymer selected from the group consisting of polycarbonate and polyimide, and may also preferably be constructed of silicon, glass, or ceramic.

摘要: A free fluoride ion sensitive electrode with longer service life can be obtained by eliminating the use of any cement or similar adhesive to hold the fluoride sensing crystal of the electrode in place within the rest of the structure of the electrode, using instead a pressure sealed combination of the fluoride sensing crystal and upper and lower elastomeric gaskets. This arrangement also permits replacing the crystal and sealing gaskets if needed, without replacing any of the other components of the electrode.

摘要: An improved combination ion-selective electrode apparatus is provided that comprises an electrode body, a reference electrode, and an ion-sensing electrode. The reference electrode comprises a ion-permeable junction. A removable membrane cap contains a ion-selective membrane. The membrane cap can be removed from the ion-selective electrode apparatus without endangering the integrity of the reference electrode and is distinct from the ion-permeable junction. The membrane cap contains a removable ion-sensitive membrane that can be replaced if the ion-sensitive membrane fails to thereby place the combination ion-selective electrode apparatus back into service. Moreover, a single combination ion-selective electrode apparatus can be used to measure a variety of analyte ions by simple replacement of the membrane cartridge.
