Abstract: Different implementations are described, particularly implementations for video encoding and decoding are presented including a method for deblocking an image. According to an implementation, in a method for deblocking an image, at least one boundary is determined between a first block of samples and a second block of samples: a boundary strength is determined according to at least one of a prediction mode of the first block and a prediction mode of the second block; and samples of the first and second blocks neighboring the at least one boundary are filtered according to the boundary strength. Advantageously, in case the prediction mode of the first block is a weighted prediction mode, the boundary strength further depends on the relative weight of samples used in predicting the first block of samples according to the weighted prediction mode of the first block and reciprocally for the second block.

Abstract: A second level intra prediction mode can be combined with one or more of sixty-seven JVET intra prediction modes during encoding of a coding unit in a video bitstream. Embodiments include making a position dependent intra prediction combination (PDPC) mode available as the second level intra prediction mode. In embodiments, when a PDPC (position dependent intra prediction combination) mode is enabled, the second level intra prediction is combined with one of the 67 selected intra predictor modes. In embodiments, the PDPC mode is only enabled or available for a predetermined subset of intra prediction modes (out of 67 possible modes), in order to reduce encoder complexity and potentially improve coding efficiency. The PDPC mode may be identifies as enabled or available by a list of modes or signaling in the video bitstream.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide methods, apparatuses, and non-transitory computer-readable storage mediums for video encoding/decoding. An apparatus includes processing circuitry that partitions a current block of a current picture based on a geometric partitioning mode (GPM). The current block is partitioned into two partitions in the GPM mode. Each of the partitions is associated with a respective predictor. A weighting index for a sample of the current block is determined based on a position of the sample. A weighting factor is calculated based on the weighting index of the sample according to an equation that converts the weighting index to the weighting factor. The sample is encoded based on the weighting factor and the predictor corresponding to the sample.
