    Abstract: In an embodiment, an apparatus includes: a gearbox including: a housing having an opening; an input pinion disposed in the housing; a moving feature mechanically coupled to the input pinion, the moving feature and the input pinion being operable to convert between power and torque; and first sensors disposed on the moving feature, the first sensors having batteries, where the moving feature is operable to rotate about a common axis, each of the first sensors being exposed by the opening as the moving feature rotates about the common axis.

    Abstract: A tiltrotor aircraft having a propulsion configuration that divorces the engine core power from the thrust fan, using a combined gearbox with a plurality of clutches to couple and decouple one or more rotor systems and one or more thrust fans. The aircraft can be operable for vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) in a helicopter mode, forward flight in a proprotor mode, and high-speed forward flight in an airplane (jet) mode. The propulsion configuration provides shaft horsepower (SHP) to rotors for VTOL flight, while also providing SHP to the thrust fan for high speed flight. Allowing the rotor and the thrust fan to be clutched on and off, sequentially, enables transition from rotor-borne VTOL flight to wing-borne thrust fan flight, and back.

    Abstract: A wing is provided in one example embodiment and may include an outboard rib; a proprotor gearbox, wherein the proprotor gearbox is located inboard of the outboard rib; a fitting attached to the proprotor gearbox; and a conversion actuator, wherein the conversion actuator is attached to the wing and is mechanically coupled to the fitting. The wing may further include a downstop striker in which the downstop striker may be mounted to the fitting and the downstop striker may be between the proprotor gearbox and the conversion actuator. The wing may further include a downstop mounted on a top side of the outboard rib, wherein the downstop and the downstop striker are aligned to be in contact when the proprotor gearbox is positioned in an airplane mode.
