A simple, compact optical system is provided that includes a transmissive optical element and a HOE but that nevertheless does not require an extra optical element for the correction of chromatic aberration. The HOE is designed to have diffractive efficiency for each of R, G, and B light beams and have different focal lengths for those light beams so as to correct the longitudinal chromatic aberration produced by a rectangular parallelepiped prism. This eliminates the need for an extra means for correcting the chromatic aberration produced by the prism. The HOE may be designed to exhibit different angles of diffraction for the R, G, and B light beams so as to correct the chromatic aberration produced perpendicularly to the optical axis by a wedge-shaped prism.

In order to suppress undesired influence of interpolation at the time of color-converting image data, a link file generating program makes a computer execute the steps of coupling a monitor profile and a printer profile to generate a link file linking display-dependent colors (RGB data) to printer-dependent colors (CMYK data), and correcting the link file to adapt a printer-dependent color related to a prescribed one of the display-dependent colors to said prescribed one. Using a display-dependent color as a reference, a printer-dependent color related to the reference color is corrected. Accordingly, a link file can be generated that suppresses the undesired influence of interpolation at the time of color-converting the image data.

An object of the present invention is to realize an image processing technique of making chromatic aberration correction excellently function and capable of efficiently correcting a chromatic aberration and to reduce storage capacity of parameters used for the chromatic aberration correction. It is constructed so that an image processing unit concurrently performs a chromatic aberration correcting process of correcting a chromatic aberration by an image capturing optical system and a color interpolating process of interpolating a dropout color component pixel by pixel on an image signal obtained from an image capturing device. On the basis of position information of a pixel to be processed obtained from the image processing unit, a control unit determines an image filter to be applied to the pixel. For example, an image filter is generated by combining a filter for chromatic aberration correction and a filter for color interpolating process. The image filter is applied, filter computation is performed on the image signal, and the chromatic aberration correcting process and the color interpolating process are concurrently performed.
