    Abstract: Techniques for implementing video processing techniques are described. In one example implementation, a method of video processing includes determining, for a conversion between a current block of a video coded using a combined inter and intra prediction (CIIP) coding technique and a bitstream representation of the video, an intra-prediction mode of the current block independently from an intra-prediction mode of a neighboring block. The CIIP coding technique uses an intermedia inter prediction value and an intermedia intra prediction value to derive a final prediction value of the current block. The method also includes performing the conversion based on the determining.

    Abstract: Devices, systems and methods for digital video coding, which includes simplified cross-component prediction, are described. In a representative aspect, a method for video coding includes receiving a bitstream representation of a current block of video data comprising at least one luma component and at least one chroma component, predicting, using a linear model, a first set of samples of the at least one chroma component based on a second set of samples that is selected by sub-sampling samples of the at least one luma component, and processing, based on the first and second sets of samples, the bitstream representation to generate the current block. In another representative aspect, the second set of samples are neighboring samples of the current block and are used for an intra prediction mode of the at least one luma component.

    Abstract: Methods, systems and devices for using flexible and efficient partitioning techniques, and in particular, depth calculations for extended quadtree partitioning, are described. An exemplary method for visual media decoding includes applying, to a current visual media block, a partitioning process that splits the current visual media block into exactly four sub-blocks including at least one sub-block that has a size different from half of a width of the current visual media block times half of a height of the current visual media block; decoding, based on a bitstream representation, the four sub-blocks; and decoding, based on the four sub-blocks and the partitioning process, the current visual media block.

    Abstract: Devices, systems and methods for encoding and decoding digital video historical information such as tables containing coding candidates are described. In a representative aspect, a method for video processing includes maintaining an Advanced Motion Vector Prediction (AMVP) candidate list for a conversion between a video block of a video and a bitstream representation of the video with a motion vector precision of M-Pel or sub-pel selected from multiple available motion vector precisions, M being a positive integer. The method also includes comparing an AMVP candidate associated with the video block with existing AMVP candidates in the AMVP candidate list, adding the AMVP candidate to the AMVP candidate list upon determining that the AMVP candidate is different than the existing candidates, and performing the conversion based on the AMVP candidate list.
