    摘要: Wireless mobile unit communication initiation is provided in a radio network that has a plurality of base stations, each providing wireless communication services in a respective geographic coverage. The wireless communication is established by first transmitting an omnidirectional sounding pulse from a wireless mobile unit. Information related to the detected sounding pulse is communicated to an interface by each base station detecting the sounding pulse. One of the base stations that detected the sounding pulse is selected for mobile unit communication based on the communicated information and directs a communication beam to the mobile unit to establish wireless communication. Alternatively, one or more of the base stations that detected the sounding pulse direct a communication beam to the mobile unit and the mobile unit selects unit the base station with which it is to establish wireless communication. Preferably, smart antennas, including directional beamforming capability, are employed by the base stations.

The frame structures may also address asynchronous downlink transmissions between two cells. Moreover, HS-DPCCH power offset settings for both CQI and HARQ-ACK fields that may be modified and/or created to ensure reliable uplink feedback transmission.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for use by a first transceiver, (e.g., wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), access point (AP), node) for adjusting the transmission rate of packets transmitted to a second transceiver based on signals the first transceiver receives from the second transceiver. In one embodiment, a transmission packet error rate (Tx PER) process is used to adjust the packet transmission rate. In another embodiment, a relative signal strength indicator (RSSI)-based process is used to determine the RSSI of packets received at the first transceiver from the second transceiver for adjusting the packet transmission rate. In another embodiment, transmission quality indicators are measured at the second transceiver and are sent to the first transceiver, which derives a new packet transmission rate therefrom. The Tx PER and RSSI-based processes may be used individually, in combination, or in conjunction with other processes.

    摘要: A wireless communication system includes a plurality of wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) and an access point (AP). The AP communicates with the WTRUs via an antenna. In one embodiment, the AP configures the antenna to a wide beam configuration that covers a desired service area and transmits a Request-To-Send (RTS) control message. When the AP receives a Clear-To-Send (CTS) control message from one of the WTRUs, the AP determines optimal antenna settings for communication with the one WTRU. The AP configures the antenna to a narrow beam configuration and transmits at least one data packet to the one WTRU. When the AP receives an acknowledgement message indicating that the data packet was successfully received by the WTRU, the AP configures the antenna to the wide beam configuration. In another embodiment, the AP is configured to transmit and receive data packet fragments from the WTRUs and configure the antenna accordingly.

Upon receipt of the signaling connection request, a first determination is performed to determine whether to provide admission to common resources.
