    Abstract: A system for raising and lowering furniture, comprising: a dwelling unit comprising a dwelling residential zone for occupants and a storage zone for furnishings above the residential dwelling zone; at least one lifting device attached to an item of furniture; at least one runner attached to the item of furniture; and at least one vertical channel adapted to engage with the at least one runner as the item of furniture is raised or lowered to or from a storage zone above the room; whereby the furniture is supported by the connection to the lifting device; whereby the at least one runner travels along the at least one channel as the item of furniture is raised or lowered is disclosed. A system for adjusting the height of fixtures in a dwelling unit, comprising at least one lifter with a base below the floor line of the dwelling and extending through the floor of the dwelling wherein the lifter is adapted to lower the fixture down to or near floor level is also disclosed. A system for rearranging the furniture in a room, comprising: at least one lifter with a base below the floor line of the room and extending through the floor of the room wherein the lifter is adapted to lower the fixture down to or near floor level; at least one lifting device attached to an item of furniture; at least one runner attached to the item of furniture; and at least one vertical channel adapted to interact with the at least one runner as the item of furniture is raised or lowered to or from a space above the room; whereby the furnishing is supported by the connection to the lifting device; and whereby the at least one runner travels along the at least one channel as the item of furniture is raised or lowered is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A shaft-mounted overhead door operator is disclosed having a motor, a torque transfer component such as a gear train, and a clutch that is axially movable to engage or disengage the clutch. While the door operator has power, the clutch is engaged to ensure door operator can raise, lower, and stop the overhead door as directed from a remote control. The clutch can be released in the event of a loss of power or by direction from the remote control in which case the clutch releases the shaft of the overhead door. The shaft-mounted overhead door is small, having a width no greater than three times the diameter of the shaft to which it is mounted.

    Abstract: An automated window mechanism includes a main body attached to a sliding window, a first telescoping arm extending from the main body in a first direction and a second telescoping arm extending from the main body in a second direction opposite the first direction. A first actuator is located at an end of the first telescoping arm. A first gear is coupled to the first actuator, the first gear being configured to interface with a first rack secured to a first side of a window frame. A second actuator is located at an end of the second telescoping arm. A second gear coupled to the second actuator, the second gear being configured to interface with a second rack secured to a second side of the window frame. The operation of the first and second actuators in concert causes the first and second gears to rotate relative to the first and second racks and move the sliding window within the window frame.

    Abstract: A mechanism is disclosed for automating a sliding window having window components comprising a stationary pane component, a sliding pane component and a window frame component. The mechanism includes a telescoping mounting assembly attached to a first of the window components. The telescoping mounting assembly includes a housing and one or two extension arms, selectively extensible from the housing to either one or both sides of the first window component. A motor is disposed within the housing driving a first gear. Either one or two telescoping drive shafts are disposed within the extension arms, each having a gear on one end of the telescoping drive shaft driven by the first gear and having a gear on an opposite end of the telescoping drive shaft that engages a rack mounted on one side of a second of the window components. The telescoping drive shafts are coupled to the extension arms and are therefore selectively extensible with first extension arms. This mechanism is installed by extending the extension arm to fit the first of the window components. The sliding window is opened and closed by rotation of the motor and the telescoping drive.
